SHR Radiator Grill Insert !
Ahh, the usual fun update....
Here's where we are at - the mold was finish-assembled today and tested for the first time (what we call sampling) - it did run, and there are parts from it, but they are not 100% yet. One area is not "shutting off" properly, and there are a couple spots where the finish is not what we want, but the only way to fix these issues is to tear it down and go in to do the work. On the plus side, it did run rather well, and all the problems are normal for a new mold, so we'll have the guys on them first thing Monday, hopefully getting parts by mid-week. We'll see how quick they turn it around, and can resample.
Originally, this was supposed to be a "simple" part, but because of the retaining clips, finishes, and angles involved (which means the part has to be really rotated in the mold) it was a bit more complex to build properly. Of course, it's just days at this point, but I know everyone in the shop is taking off for Christmas-New Year's break, so if it doesn't happen next week, it'll be the first week of January I think.
We'll see, I'll see if I can snap some photos tomorrow of the sample parts to let everyone see what we're talking about, but it might not photograph well enough for web resolution to see.

LOL - we only ran 5 complete sets, just enough to start heating the mold up and getting consistent results.
I have a "blem" of our original rear Honeycomb panel that was the very first one off the mold - problem is it looks like a burnt waffle, and is about the same size and shape
I doubt you'd want it (or these for that matter) even at a discount - we like to keep some around just for posterity... speaking of which, maybe I should do some pictures of where the Honeycomb panel "came from" and got to now that it is established as a "real" product... some of the early stuff is rather humorous how we got to where we are with it today!

Bump
Hows it going in sunny Florida Marcello? its 60 mph wind gusts/snow in Ohio...
It rained a few days ago(washes away most of the roadsalt) and was nice out yesterday, so took the Mustang out for the first time in a few weeks- went to the car wash before putting it away, saw the dents in the A/C condenser again, and thought- Man, SHR is gonna sell a boatload of those grille inserts
just curious how they were coming, and wanted to bump the thread back up in the 'easy to find' area...Keep up the great work- and Merry Christmas!

Tim,
We had to take the family to an "ice fest" this weekend so the kids could see what 9 degrees felt like
We abruptly left and went back outside to warm up, it was only 80 and sunny yesterday !!
On the inserts - we ran 30 sets on Thursday, but the tool is not set to make a production run yet. There's a couple minor flaws they still have to work through that can be hand worked out of the parts, but we're not looking to do a lot of hand work on these when they come off the mold, so they need to fix the tool before production.
Given the advertising that already is committed to this, the tool needs to be producing good, easy to package parts in the next couple weeks. We've targeted the week of Jan. 14th to have the EDM work done and all cleanup so that the parts can be run and we can get these out to everyone. If the 30 sets we ran polish up well, we'll offer them to everyone to get this rolling, but I won't know that until late in the week - most everyone is off this week, and the beginning of next week, so there isn't much going on right this second.
And Merry Christmas! We're taking two entire days off!!

Saw that Ice fest on the tube. Got to be kidding. But, I bet it was packed. (LOL)
Have a great Christmas Holiday with your family. Don't worry 'bout us, we'ere not going anywhere. Hey, as long as it will be a little while longer, you can package all my stuff together.

We're trying to enjoy a little bit, but hey, we enjoy every day here, so it's not all bad
I hope everyone has a great holiday this year, and stays out of trouble come next week! I know I had one "Tiramisu Martini" this weekend, and it about put me on the floor, so just pay attention at the parties and stuff, I want to see everyone back here in January wondering where our new inserts are at!

I was looking at my car the other day right where the inserts will go, and and I think its too late to save my A/C condensor, lol, its pretty banged up as is. Now I just need to hide it.
Well yeah, at 4:01 am it does get quiet...
We're still aiming for the week of the 14th to have the tool run again. Just need to clean up the blend where the clip pins go into the front frame edge, and the part will be perfect. Looks good now in the installed position, just not 100% when it comes out of the box in your hand, so we want to work on that just a little more.
It's that whole reputation thing biting us in the backside...

In a word, yes.
Agent 47 made a very close approximation of the OEM opening in their piece, and I have tested the grill inserts with them. While not as "perfect" a fit as it is with an OEM lower grill, they do fit, snap in, and will work just fine. Of course, I'd recommend glueing or riveting them in for competition use to reap their full benefit, but for normal street driving, you'll be just fine.
I have an AG47 lower here that is slated for my personal car, but I was holding off for a little while so that people would see the new inserts work with the stock piece as well, then I was going to swap out and have them work with the AG47 piece for SEMA next year.
