I wouldn't try the spray can for wheels. They get chipped up very easily. And if you paint them yourself and don't clear it and bake it, any little rock is going to chip the paint. And then, the chip is just going to continue o get bigger and bigger. Eventually, it'll probably start to crack/flake anyway with the heat that the wheels get. I though about doing my bullitts black (except for the crome outer lip) but if I did, I'd have them powdercoated. That will hold up to anything.

Spacers are dangerous, I've seen too many guys at the track snap the studs and have the wheels come off when racing. If you want your wheels to come out to the edge of the fender then buy wider rims. Yes it costs more but it's much safer. Take a look at the difference in the length of the studs in these pics:

These pics are from this thread but they show you the differnce in length in the studs. The studs on the spacers are shorter and can't handle as much torque as the stock wheel studs. If your not going to race your car then you might be able to get away with it. If you are then I wouldn't even think of getting spacers. Just my 2 cents.

I appreciate the concern, and that was one of my concerns when I got the spacers. The stock studs were only about a quarter of an inch shorter than the ones on the spacer. The stock lugs look like they are longer because the threads don't start until at least a quarter of an inch down the lug. The actual length of threaded bolt is very comparable to the ones on the spacers. And even if they aren't as long, the spacers were made with lug bolts that are long enough to be plenty safe. I researched this before buying the spacers... as far as how much thread is needed. It's got enough, trust me, or they wouldn't be on my car.

I got them from 50resto.com for $100 a pair. It takes about as long as it does to put on a spare tire. Times four, or two... depending on how many you get. This was by far the easiest mod I've done. Just remember to use loc-tite on the lugs when you attach the spacer to the wheel. Then, just attach the wheel to the spacer as you normally would.

I have had a set of spacers on the Bullitt for about 3 and a half years now with NO problems. It has been down the track only once but WE DO NOT baby that car! I love the look and (at least in my opinion) I think it is safe! One of my friends has them on his super charged Bullitt about 3 months longer than me with no problems and he is making 386RWHP

I have had mine on for over 6 months now, and no problems at all. The wheel spacers studs (threaded portion) were only about a quarter of an inch shorter than the stock threaded portion of the lugs. It's definitely not a problem. The spacers would not be sold if they were unsafe.

Just to comment on how tire sizes affect handling.


You want different tire sizes based on what you are trying to accomplish. If you look at a 'funny-car' drag racer, they have giant tires in the back, and bicycle tires on the front. Since they don't really have to turn, lighter fronts are better. But, since you and I want to be able to make that U-turn, you need bigger tires on the front (well, wider than those bike tires).

It's all about ratios. The wider the fronts are compared to the rears, the easier it is to turn. But... you don't want it to get twitchy, because curbs are not your friend.

The wider your rears, the more likely you are to go in a straight line, and the more acceleration traction you have, but the harder it is to turn.

If you have lots of power, you need big rears to get it to the ground. Small tires will spin (more) easily. If they spin while you are taking a fast turn, your rear completely loses traction and your car spins around, too.

So, wider = more grip on that end (except in rain, when wider may/can = hydroplane, ie surfboard).
BTW, I can add something about sidewalls in case anyone is interested.

Agreed, acadians car is awesome...I saved the sites you posted but I found a billet set for 69.00 w no shipping, they are much the same as what is on Ian's car, they do not have that centering lip, neither do Ian's. When they come I will pull my wheel off and see if this lip is on the hub, if it is, I will most probably sell them, and spend a lot more money to buy the ones in the pic you posted

The max motorsport one has that concentric wheel centering lip, that is the one I might get after I pull the wheel and check out the hub on my car!

Dont know about the ring on the H+R , the 25mm is the 1 inch one
