The stock aluminum hood and sound padding weighs 33 lbs.

Think about an aluminum canoe versus a fiber glass one of the same size , which one do you think is heavier

I had a fiberglass hood for a while and bought some struts with more oomph for it. I may still have them laying around and could send them to you. Just pay shipping. I'll look tonight and let you know.

Yeah. I really go back on forth on my hood a lot. Sometimes I like it bc it's beefy, but other times it just looks too overpowering. I think once I get my CDC aggressive on with it it'll balance out. But it took me forever to decide on the aggressive because the classic would just be too small and the same for the cs front. But it also looks really really nice with the roush front.

Another thing to consider with struts and fiberglass is the possibility of warping the hood with the struts.

I have no idea if this would happen, but I've read that some guys had slight bowing where the struts were in the hood.

Sorry, old thread, but hey, search function works!

This, had me searching for another option.
Ive had the Steeda Cowl and MRT struts for nearly 8 years, but never kept them on, due to a slight hood bow along the fenders when closed. I only put them on when working under the hood or car shows.

I think there has to be a strut for a fiberglass hood by now that will, 1 hold the weight, 2, not bow the hood.

Well, in case this matters...

I bought the Cobra R hood for my '06 from Cervini's directly, and then got the MMD struts, after I was *assured* they would do fine on that hood.

And they do. Fantastically. I have every confidence in them.

... That said, the prop rod is still there just in case...

...well that, and I'm a lil' lazy about it... it's not hurtin' anyone stayin' there...

Can't say there's a bow in the hood from 'em at all.

I have a TruCarbon hood and of all the hood struts on the market I like Redlines' the best. I had them for my stock hood and now my carbon fibre hood. They attach further up on the hood more towards the middle and it goes up with just a finger and the wind doesn't blow it down.

Silverskoundrel if you don't go with Redline struts be careful with the others as they put more pressure on the hood when you close it.

Hey Gigantor. I've got the same hood and want to get the red-line struts but wasn't sure about which version to get...for the stock hood or the aftermarket. The aftermarket set-up requires you to rivet a bracket to the hood. Wouldn't the fiberglass crack?
