Hood struts w/fiberglass hood?

Just bought this hood

http://www.americanmuscle.com/kaenen-cowlhood-0509.html

One of my coworkers said that my hood will be a lot more brittle with the struts I was curious if this is true? And if I will have to be more careful? Use just 1 strut? Any help is appreciated!!!

I ran struts on my Cervini hood. I don't see that you would run into any issues.

I use Redline struts on my Cervini's hood with no problems.

I ran my Cervinis Concept hood with MRT struts for a time. The main issue for me was that the hood was a little too heavy for the struts. Unless it was really warm, the pistons didn't have enough oomph to keep the hood up. So I've reverted to a prop rod for the past couple of years.

Just have your prop rod there for if the wind picks up. That's what my buddy does at shows when he walks away from the car. I know it kind of defeats the purpose of the struts, but it's added support.

Redline struts don't need a prop rod for extra support. They easily lift my Cervinis Concept hood from 12" to 18" from closed to fully open with no problem and they hold the hood fully open in the wind. Now I didn't try it during a hurricane but I trust them more than the prop rod.

Fiberglass would be heavier than the stock hood?

Yes, fiberglass hoods are heavier than the OE aluminum hood.

SilverSkoundrel,

Awesome choice, that hood looks sick!

I don't see a problem with running a hood strut kit with that set up. If you are worried about it, then the keeping the stock hood rod there is a great option.

As far as weight goes, in most cases fiberglass hoods & Stock aliminum hoods are within a pound or so of each other.

Let me know if you need further assistance! Our Mustang Experts are here Monday-Friday from 9AM-9PM EST and Saturdays from 9AM-5:30PM EST. If you want to hit them up, their number is 866.727.1266.

Thank you for the business, we greatly appreciate it!

Does anyone know stock hood weight? I read on AM that the hood I ordered is 69lbs boxed.
