I agree with what you are saying Dke in regards to the 05 Mustang GT goes but the Shelby isnt out yet so they havent let him or us down. It just cracks me up at how many posts he made about the Shelby and then runs out to get the GTO. You would have sworn someone was cutting off his arms the way he went on about it. Nothing wrong with being excited about it, which I am sure we all are, but I am not going to run out and buy a GTO for $5.

OK. (sorry). I wasn't commenting on that persons behavior -- just trying to reflect that I wouldn't bash someone else's decisions; either way. My point was just that Ford wasn't quick with releasing the Mustang, nor with the special editions, nor with the Cobra (1 1/2 years, or 2 model years later). I understand people choosing something else to waiting, or frustration at not being able to get what they want from Ford.

I really want an 07 cobra but i learned my lesson with my 2002 Harley Davidosn f-150 I was worried because it was going to be supercharged and i wouldnt get one so the day i saw it on the truck to the lot i took off work and went to the dealer as they unloaded it i siad i wanted it I was 21 years old he acked to see my credit and we didnt even talk #'s untill i saw the 42,000 out the door i still didnt hear i was just looking for a payment of around 450.00 so they gave me what i asked for when the 2003 came out you could get x-plan all day 33,000 oth the door . Now i was lucky in a way i did close to 14K as a down payment when i get my 07 cobra ill weight untill mid year and pay msrp they will make as maney as they can 7,500 is still alot of cars. they only made like 5,000 lightnings or so and you saw them evey where

No need to be sorry Dke I know what you meant The whole thing cracked me up from Wakeriders stand point because he has been like a kid on the back seat on a long road trip for a motnh now..."are we there yet, are we there yet" and then he goes out and buys the GTO and basically craps on the mustang he loved afterwards. I wish him luck with his car. As I have said I dont care for the looks...I liked the proto better...but it does have performance. I think he paid too much but again if he is happy that is all that matters.

He did pay to much for the GTO since it wont have half the performance the GT500 will have and there is noway in heck his GTO will out run the GT500. He is going to be sorry when he is at a stop light and a GT500 pulls next to him and then it will be to late to want one since you have a GTO. Also his GTO wont be as popular as the GT500 is going to be people might take a glance at his GTO but people will follow you until you pull into a gas station just to see under the hood of the GT500.

What are you talking about? Half the performance?? The GTO gets to 60 mph in the high 4's, maybe about 4.8 s, are you saying that the GT500 will have a time better than 2.4 s? Because that is just plain wrong.

Good point Holder..I dont think anyone, except maybe iceman, is disputing that the GTO has performance. They just dont like the looks of it. We arent comparing a dodge neon to a Shelby Iceman, the GTO is a performance vehicle.

Holder what part of half the performance dont you understand lets do the comparison GTo you said 0-60 in like 4.8 now the shelby about 4.1 maybe lower now lets see GTO quarter mile in the 13s now the shelby in the low 12s or high 11s lets see here doesnt take a rocket scientists to figure this one out looks like half the perfomance to me. And he is the one who saying his GTO will be able to keep up with the Shelby it isnt going to happen sorry buddy.

Ice man you have to realize that the GTO is N/A. And that’s a big deal. The Shelby GT 500 is a very respectable car (Just going to be a little too much $$$ for me) and will be able to outrun my stock GTO.

Also my friends stock 2005 M6 GTO runs high 12's 1/4 mile (12.9x).

I'm telling you the GTO is not a “put put†car. With a 6.0L engine the car will move around.

If I decided to mod my GTO and put a twin screw s/c on her I would be pushing 500hp.

All I'm saying is that the Shelby was a little out of my price range. After dealer mark-up, Gas Guzzler's tax, tax, title and tag.... it came out to be too much for me.

NOTE: M6 GTO does not have Gas Guzzler's tax

I also priced a Mustang GT with all the options comparable to the GTO, and that came out to be just a few hundred cheaper than the GTO itself.

Please realize I'm not saying the Mustang GT is a down right terrible car... It looks very cool... But the performance I'm looking for is just not there for me.

Bottom line: Shelby GT 500 would have ended up costing me about 10-15K more than the GTO. Its just not worth that much to me.

At 400hp, 400 ft/lbs tq. N/A, I am pretty happy.

I don’t hate the mustang GT.... Its just not for me. My sister is probably getting an 06'.

(If you guys want I can post video clips of the stock exhaust... Its sounds NICE)

Wakerider thats cool im not going to diss your car i think it is a good car and that is alot of hp for the money i think you made a good choice cause if you think about it with just a few mods your keeping up or beating the best out there. But i was watching the news yesterday and they said sales on the GTO arnt doing that good i dont know why they should and the said the new mustang is out selling the 300C's and those cars look really good looks like ford hit another grand slam. But you know what wakerider it doesnt matter if me or anyone else on here likes your car or does like it as long as you like it thats all that matters. When i get my GT500 hopefully get one if someone doesnt like it think that will matter to me heck no cause i will like it. Alot of people on here are jerks anyway go with what you like.

Thanks, When you do get your GT500 that will be a bad hiney car. If I were you I would watch out for those dealer markups. Its gonna be crazy the first few months.

A car that would beat the Shelby: a GTO Judge. Man that car would KICK ****!!!!

It would probably have over 500 hp N/A. But again most likely out of my price range.

And also ford really did hit the nail on the head with the mustang. And I think thats obvious. Those things are selling like hot cakes.

05' GTO's are selling a lot better than the 04's but still not selling that well. Beats me.
I think people want a car thats a little more "flashy". A car that screams I have 400hp!

Like a Vette.

Well doesnt the 400hp GT0 have the same engine the new corvette has i think i heard that it does. And i know alot of dealers will mark the price up for sure but i am trying to stay withing the 40s price range if they go over to in the 50s i am not paying that but alot of people will i can promise you that . So you have the 350hp GTO right is it fast and do you race people and have you done anything to it to make it faster?

No I have the 05' GTO with 400 hp and the vette engine. (Its the ls2)

I have raced a few 04' mustang GT's and a Z28. Beat everyone so far.

Probably going to add a CAI when K&N makes one for the 05' GTO.

Cant wait to take her to the track. I'm expecting VERY high 12's.

Yah I would definatley not spend more than mid 45's for the Shelby Cobra. I really hate that dealers are low down dirty DOGS! (At least most of them)

We're so hard pressed to find cars under $75K that can beat the Shelby, that now we're pitting it against fantasy vehicles that don't exist.

Too funny.

Not not really....

I can tell you 2 that would kick the Shelby's hiney on the track.

-2006 Dodge Charger SRT 8 (425hp N/A)
-2005 Pontiac GTO (400hp N/A)

Slap a S/C on both of those and they are WELL over 500hp.

(Note: You get the money for the S/C from the 10-15K you saved over buying the Shelby)

Also please note in no way am I saying the Shelby is a "crap" car. I just dont think it is such a "deal" like you stated.

BTW, If they were to make a Judge (which they prob. won't) it would be cappable of blowing the Shelby out of the water N/A!!!

i can put a 16psi blower on my 01 stang and have that much power too, but stock to stock and for the money, the shelby will win

The charger srt8 will most likely be around the shelby price anyway, and with less power.

the gto is heavier than the shelby, and is lucky to be a low 13 second car, and it cost only 7k less.
