Well the 05' mustang was a big hit.... And that was a play on the retro 60' Stangs.
I say dodge would have been smart to make a kinda retro yet modern car like the Mustang.

I would have loved to see that car resemble a 70' Charger!
The 05' Mustang actually resembles a 60's Stang.

An 06' Charger looks NOTHING like a 70's Charger!

I'm sure there will people that buy the car.... but I believe It would have been much more successful if they made it more "sporty".

It could have been just like the mustang.... have 3 different models/classes, 1 for every price range
I think Dodge really blew it this time!
Okay, let me get this straight, you are upset because Dodge brought back the Charger and it doesn't look like a 70's Charger. You own a GTO, why don't you have a problem with the GTO looking nothing like the original? Most people think that GM really blew that but you still bought the car. Maybe I am missing something?

The GTO may not look like the original but it still has all the basics...

2 doors, Big hiney engine, manual tranny, etc.

I agree that the GTO could have looked better if they went more Retro. But they nailed it on the head with performance (at least for 05')

The Charger Just looks like a Family car with a spoiler. It seriosly look like a 300.

Okay, take the name Charger off the car, you are hung up on the name, what is your opinion of the car compared to others in it's class? Nissan Maxima, Ford Five Hundred, Pontiac Grand Prix, ect...

Yah, Take the name off...

You do that and it's a most awesome car. If I was looking for a Big 4 door I would definetly Go Charger.

Only thing is the SRT8 will be more expensive than those in its class.

Chrysler/Dodge are coming out with 400hp family cars. I think thats Nuts (but cool).

I hope there will be these kinda cars around when I'm older.

But ya, Charger is not a fitting name for it. Call it the "Dodge Four-Hundred" or somin

I believe the 2006 Charger is more true to the Charger "heritage" than the Omni-based models from the '80s. There's no way you can convince me they should have carried the Charger name.

The 2006 Charger is in NO way "true to the Charger "heritage"."

All it is is a 300C with a body kit on it.

What's the deal with this. A word you can't actually say on the forum, but is part of a members name!

Well doesn't this stink

The only problem you have is the name? Can you say that with a straight face? Who cares about a name. If the car has what I want in a car, I could care less if it was called the Dodge Care Bear. Since when are 4 door cars only for older people? Maybe you have a lot of friends that need to use a back seat, who says you have to have a family to have 4 doors. Actually a funny thing to note, the first brand new car I bought after I graduated from college is my Grand Prix, with 4 doors. Now that I have a family with a 2 year old daughter, I have a 2 door sports car. Although we still have the Grand Prix. There is such a thing as a sports sedan, and they can be cool. The Charger is a cool car, for anyone to own, you don't have to be 40.

So what does that have to do with anything. So it used the same platform as the 300, I think Dodge would love it if the Charger is as successful as the 300. It actually should sell better since it's sells for a lower price.

Maybe you would like to do a little research on the Charger, the fact it shares a lot of components with another vehicle is true to it's heritage. See the Dodge Omni, Plymouth Horizon and Plymouth Turismo if you don't know what I mean. I wonder if Shelby will make a Shelby version of the new Charger, for old time sakes. Also, for those that say the Magnum looks like the Charger, well that's keeping to heritage too, since in '78 and '79, the Dodge Magnum was a more luxurious version of the Charger.

Read what I said: MORE true to the heritage than the old Omni-based Chargers.

Only a 300C with a body kit? That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Not not really....
I can tell you 2 that would kick the Shelby's hiney on the track.
-2006 Dodge Charger SRT 8 (425hp N/A)
-2005 Pontiac GTO (400hp N/A)

Slap a S/C on both of those and they are WELL over 500hp.

(Note: You get the money for the S/C from the 10-15K you saved over buying the Shelby)

Also please note in no way am I saying the Shelby is a "crap" car. I just dont think it is such a "deal" like you stated.

BTW, If they were to make a Judge (which they prob. won't) it would be cappable of blowing the Shelby out of the water N/A!!!
EDIT: Bypassing Language filters
A hypothetical argument about a theoretical situation concerning a fantasy car.

I can slap a rocket motor on my mountain bike and beat all of ya!

"fantasy car" HAHAHA!

Is it really that much of a fantasy to install a S/C on a GTO?

Lots of people have done it already!

Here is a pic of a 2004 GTO with twin turbo, 508rwhp
(Imagine what it would be if it was an 05')

What do these last posts have to do with Shelby availability?

He was refering to the Judge as the fantasy car, not a supercharged GTO.

Its completely stupid to pay over MSRP... especially on a Ford. Yes its shelby and all that crap but its still stupid and pointless to pay that much for a friggin' ford. I would like one but the truth is that I am aiming more towards a ZO6, which will still drive 20x better and last longer and give me less probs!!! And still knock out a 11 sec 1/4 mile and top out at 190!!! an SVT can't do that unless you dump crazy money into it... so might as well go with the new C6!!!

dont get me wrong i own 2 mustangs... buts seriously... the truth is the truth. The resale value for ford is still no match for GM... but of course who would like to sell a shelby??

What is your definition of crazy money, with the Z06 costing about $30k more than the Shelby, I would say dumping $30k into the Shelby would be beyond crazy money. And I don't think anyone here has said that the Z06 isn't a better car, but you are also paying more for it. I hope you are getting the Z06 for MSRP because I think it is pointless to pay more than MSRP on a GM vehicle. Who cares about resale value anyway, if you are already thinking about selling the car before you buy it, don't buy in the first place.
