I had the local muffler shop put duals on the stang and it sounded like rice, so after some research i found out that very long glasspacks sound deep. Well i bought 42 inch packs from summit I put them in along with keeping the mufflers and sure enough it took out all the high pitch up to about 4000rpm sounds good and deep. I ordered some flowmaster delta 40's to put out back, i figure these plus the glasspacks and it should sort of sound like a quiet V8. What do you all think?

I put on a magnaflow muffler,I was told the flowmaster would sound tinny so I went with their advice and what I got was a deep sound out of just one muffler it sounds really good.

I was thinking of going with a flowmaster too, but if the magnaflow sounds deep, that's all I really want. What exact model of magnaflow muffler did you get?

Well I got the flowmasters installed, its got a nice deep rumble till about 3.5k rpm under load then it gets a little louder and sounds like a healthy v6, well I guess its time for the xcalibrator and some 4.56's

bassani is the only exhaust I would buy. I also hate the glasspack sound.

You hate everything including the V6. So why are you in this forum?

I added an H pipe today and that seemed to help, so now I have the H pipe and 2.5 inch duals with 42 inch glasspack's backed up by 2 flowmaster delta 40's.
It makes for a excellent tone, and isnt excessivly loud and several of the gearheads at work have complimented me on the sound.

Clenfers - How much have you spent now all in all getting the sound that you want? And any chance of a sound clip? Ive been dieing to know how a 6 would sound with glasspacks on.

I paid the shop $120 for the duals, I think the 42 inch glasspacks were $70 and I got the Flowmasters for $120 off ebay for the pair of them, so I guess a rough total of $310 and about 3 hrs of my time. The welding of the glasspacks and flowmasters was done by me with the company mig welder although I hadnt done it for years so the welds are not pretty but they are under the car so it doesnt matter to much I guess. I also started using some fiberglass wrap to cover the stainless steel sections of pipe, it helps keep exhaust gas velocity high due to the fact that dual 2.5 tubing takes away from the exhaust pulses at the lowend of the rpm range.

And the glasspacks are there for their muffling effect as I stated earlier longer glasspacks not only muffle more they produce deeper tones and everthing I have done was in an effort to get rid of the honda sound and make it sound more like a quiet V8 wich I have finally achived with all this effort.

With that said I will get a sound clip of my work put on here in the next few days. Although keep in mind without a subwoofer for your computers sound system you may not get to hear the full effect.

P.S. I have run glasspacks on a 3.8 mustang by themselves and it sounded like a mad bumble bee, not a very nice noise :nono: it will not sound like any of the V8's

Ouch...all of this is way too technical for a non-gear head like me. From what I gather, the V6 has a decent sound as is but if I wanted to (as simply as possible) give it a bit more of that "muscle car" rumble...what would I do? Thanks in advance from an automotive tech dummy.

Just get either the magnaflows or flowmasters, and if you dont intend to do more mods later then dont go with more than 2.25 duals due to the natural low end scavaging effect.

If you go for duals also have them put a crossover in be it an X or H pipe for balacing purposes.

I will try to get that sound clip but here in Kansas City we had an ice storm with some snow, so my mustang sits quietly under about 1 inch of ice for the moment.

Hey clenfers, I'm a Kansas City boy living in Tulsa for now. I drove up to be in the snowice and the stang was awesome. Too bad you were iced in. But to the point, the ice is melted where is that clip? Come on and share.

I waited 2 years for this car to come out.........I just traded it in for an Exploder.... ....I got the old lady knocked up :bang: ...I just didnt want to deal with putting a 2 yr old and an infant in the back seat, I had the 2 yr old trained to hop in and situate himself but trying to get an infant in and out would really be a pain I guess I will just have to wait a few more years.

I believe that particular mod would not cause you any warranty grief.

I know this thread is way old, but does anyone have a sound clip of the glasspacks on our cars?
