05 v6 shaker hood kit
05 v6 shaker hood kit
Does this 650$-750$ upgrade do much performance wise or is it more of an appearance upgrade? Jw cause I think it's really cool but for that much money you never know.
i love the look of the shaker scoop, its the coolest there is. but i hate the engine cover that goes with it so i opted for the roush scoop. even it has a nice look and feel from the drivers seat
I got the Fang/Aeroform fiberglass hood and shaker- but I bolted the shaker to the hood (dont like engine covers much either) using their blockoff plate...had to fabricate a steel ring to sandwich a gasket to the scoop, had to make a gasket out of a sheet of 5/16 rubber, and mill about 1/2" off the aluminum front scoop mounting bosses... looks like a shaker, with Fang's hollow hood duct/airbox its functional, just doesnt shake (and hood is heavy- guessing plate, scoop, ring, gasket probably adds 15#, plus the 'glass hoods are very heavy compared to the factory aluminum...
my OEM hood suddenly suffered the bubbling paint(went from a few blisters to inches up over the front lip in a few months time) so I had to do something...due to not wanting the engine cover parts, the guy at Aeroform even knocked the price way down- want to say it was like 850 for everything I got, and a few evenings making parts.
Anyways, performance-wise, I'd say negative in my case- the engine sounds meaner, you definitely hear a big difference, but seat of the pants feel is the same...I'm sure the extra 50#(guess) of the 'glass hood over stock would eat up any minor gains, with the restrictive looking airbox mod and hood ducting, It sure dont look to be freeflowing- but by the sound of it, it must be getting freshair. a possible drawback to Fang's kit also is their duct kit is made to mod a OEM airbox...with a CAI the airbox parts wont fit- HOWEVER, I'm 99% sure the hood hole/duct would blow right over most CAI heatshields, and eliminate most of the restriction, and a lot of the work needed to install...It took me a couple evenings just to cutup the airbox, I split their duct in half to make filter replacement easier, just took a lot longer to cut/fit than I thought it would.
Love the look of shakers on these cars, and still a big fan of the Fang/Foose styling with the 69-ish center spear...

Put one on my car. Even chatted with the Bama folks afterwards about if the tune had to be modded. I guess in a nutshell, exactly what everyone said. Install is not bad at all considering you're cutting your car. Once you have the CAI the shaker isn't doing much. I just piped mine into the AIRAID box.
The cowl is definitely a bad idea imho. Traps way too much heat under it. It trimmed it up all the way around to the tip of the radius then wrapped the edge with door trim. Much better.
Looks bad ***. Everyone stops and stairs at lights. Fun to just watch it shake and rattle at startup, under acceleration, etc.
Best I can say is no one buys one and then goes i wish i hadn't after install.
Good luck.
