It sounds like you aren't sure you like the sound of the Flowmasters with the headers, can I ask why? Why are you thinking of toning it down with the GTAs? I've always heard an H-pipe with a chambered muffler is a good sound, so I would think the Flows would sound pretty bad ***.

This statement that he said sums it up:"The headers sound pretty sweet. I'm not 100% satisfied yet, as I need to trackdown some new noises, I'm not used to. I'm guessing some small leaks and rattles somewhere"

I think some of the rattles were due to the O2 sensor/ MIL eliminator connectors all flopping around under there. I took a 5 min look under the car and didn't see anything loose or any exhaust leaks....yet. The connectors were free to bounce off of the sheet metal floor pan and tranny tunnel, etc. A few high temp tie-wraps, and I think it may have gotten rid of some of that new noise.

As for the Flows and LTs. It's just a different sound than I'm use to I think. Everyone that was heard it like the way it sounds. At idle and low RPMs I couldn't be more pleased. Very deep and muscle car sounding. Almost shakes the ground and your body standing behind the car. When revving the engine, I get a higher pitched sound. I guess it's like the trumpeting people talk about, not real sure. SlamMan02 might be able to elaborate. He also heard me drive off, which is something I have heard yet. The best thing so far, is the drone has been diminished.

I've only driven the car a few times so far, so I'll keep the radio off, and enjoy the exhaust symphony some more.

Maybe if it is trumpeting, the cause could be an unknown leak.

Phew finally post 667 LOL...But yeah Jim my sister has a REALLY nice video camera that I filmed some exhaust clips with a few months ago and Im sure I could go pick it up if you wanted to make some videos.

Honestly I really liked the way the car sounded. On take-off there was no trumpeting apparent, just a deep rumble which almost seemed to turn into more of a Tin-ey (Not Tiny) Metallic LS1 scream (which is what I think Jim is not too sure about) in the higher RPMs that I think Flowmaster is notorious for. Regardless, I think it was money well spent, and the car will sound great whether or not you put a different axleback on.

Now for the dyno tune!!

Thanks for helping explain Matt! I'm not sure I know what people mean when they say trumpeting, but I'm glad to hear that's not the sound I'm making.
It sure don't sound like it used to, that's for sure!!

The tinny high pitched noise is definitely something I am trying to avoid (and part of the reason for going for an H over the X), does anyone know how Stingers would compare to the Flows with catted H and headers?

MustangFan I def. think it sounds good

JGT don't get me wrong it is still VERY deep, but in the higher RPMs it seems to give a different sound almost reminscent of a Nascar or something or the sort, which is kind of hard to explain, but maybe Jim and I can get together and record it on video.

Jim,

Will be sending over a modified tune for you Monday morning. That's way rich. I'll hammer it out, and should take care of your issue and raise those numbers quite a bit.

Thanks CR! Glad you agree! I'll try to scan a couple of the dyno sheets so you can see what the A/F was doing. Everyone at the dyno shop said the same thing about it being too rich.

Lowe, are you more satisfied with the Flowmasters now?
So far so good. Looks like things are going to dry out this week, so I'll get to drive the car a little more. I had it parked all weekend so no new news.

Ya I was hoping to see you head out to the McDonalds show. I had a long convo with Buck (LKSGAS) and there was actually a good turn out of cars.
