Here's a good SCT/Diablo debate that's worth referencing...

If you add new exhaust from the exhaust manifold back do you need to use a tuner? I am looking at a total swap with magna flow xpipe hi flow cats. is it necessary?

also what if I change the pulleys? is that necessary?

THanks

Pulleys aren't a problem...no tuning required.

The exhaust will lean things out but on a stock tune it probably won't run too lean as they're generally on the rich side to start with. With an SCT or Diablo Performance tune it might be too lean. I had a custom tune for MAC LT headers that I got from DTP and I ran it with my Stainless Works exhaust. When I got it tuned, I found that I had been running around 13.2 - 13.6 not dangerously lean but not where peak HP is made. My tuner picker up an additional 10 rwhp before he was done.

Here's one for you -

I had the Performance tune from Predator installed . . . no problems.

Then I installed the C&L intake and loaded the appropiate Custom Tune for it.

Does the C&L Custom tune include the Predators performance tune "AND" addtional tunes for the C&L ?

In other words, did I lose any PERFORMANCE TUNE settings by installing the C&L Custom tune? or does the C&L tune "add" on top of the Predator Performance tune?

Do you see what I'm asking?

No problems with the car, just curious in case I might be missing something more.

Tom

Will tuning void any part of the warranty? (Didn't see that question addressed in this FAQ)

You should still have all the tunes.

Good question.

It's my understanding that an aftermarket tune is enough to void the drivetrain warranty, as the dealer can claim that the mods/tune can have damaged whatever part may have caused you to bring the car in for repair (transmission for example).

It will not, however, effect the entire car's warranty. They'll still fix your stereo or whatever.

That stuff said, I "heard" from a "friend" that with a stock tune reinstalled and touching the battery cables together it effectively "reboots" the factory computer and the dealer wouldn't know it had been run with an aftermarket tune.* It also depends on the dealer, as some are more mod-friendly than others.

* I'm not reccomending this proceedure, and I'm no kind of master tech. Just relaying what I heard from what I consider to be a fairly reliable source.

Which leads me to the question:

Why are so many people doing a CAI + tune, but worried about putting on a supercharger 'cause it'll void the warranty?

I'm not one of those that are worried... I want the power, and I'm prepared to pay if it breaks.

Maybe some others are worried about a SC more than a CAI/tune, because a CAI/tune is much less likely to cause a serious problem than a SC.

That, and it's a matter of minutes to reinstall the factory air box/tune and put the aftermarket CAI in a closet and play dumb.

People that have the funds to supercharge also have the funds to replace a blown engine and do not worry about the warranty. Good rule of the thumb is. If you are making payments forget it. Different strokes for different folks. No payments here but I would not like to replace a blown engine.

OK, newb question here, or more appropriately reassurance. I just got my car a week ago and already have big plans for it, here's the short list
C&L CAI
Ford Racing Shorty Headers
Flowmaster axle-back
Plasma Booster Multi-fire Ignition
Diablo Sport Predator

I really don't know a whole lot about tuning these cars, so would it be better to play-n-learn with the Predator and use canned tunes to get it all straightened out, or should I use a tuning professional and save my time since there are a number of mods?

Newbie considering CAI+tune. After browsing through FAQs and other threads I had 3 questions in mind  :

o first about Ford guarantee being voided, but I see it's been answered already :-). It seems obvious one would restore the factory settings before a revision to play safe. Removing the CAI as well every time sounds like a pain though (I'm just being lazy I guess), and could be a mandatory step if the CAI requires a tune.

o second, probably a silly question but will this kind of MOD shorten the life of the car or of some parts??

o I've read somewhere that a good tune could improve mileage as well. Is this for real?

I'm just trying to figure out where the catch is. I'm thinking: if a tuning can improve performance and mileage without any tradeoff, then why isn't Ford doing it? I must be missing something here

Diablo Sport Rocks- with the CAI and Xhaust - can FEEL the difference - especially in launch - mikem is right - the Predator comes already loaded with the tunes for the most popular mods and when you are done uploading the stock tune - go thru some questions about mods and octanes and you are done....

I'm confused by your post. I have a Predator model U7140 and haven't seen any questions when uploading about mods and octanes.

Is there any difference between the DiabloSport Predator (and SCT X2) you buy from one dealer versus another? They all the same or different? Doing a search, I see different prices. ??

Am I understanding correctly, that BOTH SCT and Diablo provide a way to get NEW programs? How?

Is there any need to install any gauges to monitor anything? (I know they recommend exhaust gas gauges in the diesel F250...)

Can I install and modify the tunes in both the SCT and Diablo myself? (or do I have to go to a special tuner?)

Do they both allow modifications and tuning adjustments of the same components? Does the Diablo fix the throttle lag?

Thanks

Redfire 05 Gt - i am not sure what my "Model Number" is - but will look it up for you - in the papers that came with it - says the one can go to an authorized dealer or website and also down load programs ( have not done this myself, yet ) - when i got mine, it was pre-loaded with tunes for Cold Air, Shift Points, Fuel, exhaust, torque, octane, rev limits and some other things that i cannot remember off top of my head - also, it self activated upon plug in and even told me to be certain the car is not running......

the tuner was the Diablo Predator Sport ordered at a Ford Dealer here in H-Town....

both Diablo and SCT vary in the adjustments and mods they can account for - Diablo is for C&L CAI vs SCT for K&N as an example -

it is my understanding that if you buy the tuner w/ CAI - it may come out to cost less than buying them seperate -

hope this helps....
