Exclamation Excuse my ignorance, but is this doable?

Question... how different is the 5.4 engine in say an F-150 vs. the 5.4 Cobra engine coming out (aside from the obvious supercharger and maybe the iron block)?

Are the internals in that engine stronger than our 3-V engines (and how about compared to the new Cobra)? Could it safely handle 500+hp?

And now, to the main question... Would it be too far out there to buy a 5.4 from an F-150, turbo/supercharge it, and put a 6-speed to it?

Let me know, and don't flame me for being ignorant, I'm just trying to learn. If anyone knows, is in this forum.

I would imagine. I haven't really thought it thru yet, but my long term plans include swapping out the crank, rod, and pistons. This to beef it up for double digit boost. Look at the bore and stroke of the Shelby 5.4 and the GT 4.6:
5.4 bore= 3.55" stroke= 4.165"
4.6 bore= 3.55" stroke= 3.54"

As you can see the bore (i.e. pistons) are the same diameter! The increase in displacement is all in the stroke (crankshaft). So I was considering looking into a forged 5.4 crankshaft when the time comes. That's what I'm hoping anyway.

I'm sure its physically doable, as the 5.4L block fits.

I'm assuming, although I can't verify with total certainty, that the internals of the 5.4 have the same types of materials as the 4.6. So the only advantage would be the additional cubic inches, not much would be gained in terms of durability.

A better bet IMO would be to find a supercharged Lightning motor or to spend any additional money building a stout 4.6.

I thought about the Lightning engine too, a 2004 engine would put through 380hp (450 torque) @ 4750rpms, a very low reving engine... Now, how much power can that engine handle? Anybody knows/has any idea? Changing the pullie in the supercharger (depending on size) would increase boost a couple of pounds... right?

So, say I have the engine (which I don't), what's needed to make it work? Flywell, new engine computer, clutch? what do you think...

Lightning engine would be a much better idea. Typically engines built foe forced induction from factory are going to be much stronger. My plans 2-3 years from now are for a twin turbo shelby motor putting down 1000+ on race gas.

I'm liking the idea of the SVT lightning engine... but what else would need to happen to make it work? How would it pair up with our current set up (say I don't change the transmission), car computer, etc.

What are ya'ls opinions?

Whenever you're doing an engine swap you're also doing a computer/wiring harness swap. My guess is you will be changing the transmission. The stock one isn't gonna hold a lightning motor. The toughest part is gonna be making everything fit but it can definatly be done.
