I have a close friend who has a 90 GT bought new(8k miles), a 2004 Cobra brought new(2k miles) and an 08 GT500 and I posed the question to him to. He said the GT500 is in w hole nother stratosphere as far as handling and ride and seat comfort as compared to the Cobra and GT. And he said the 500 is even faster and he prefers it over the other 2 for driving. I agree. The cobra is the best bang for the ebuck but is no where as fun to drive at the 500. The fox is a joke compared to the other two..

I guess you haven't seen that youtube link I put up then. and also, your friend is sooooo wrong. The Cobra is faster then the GT500 by .1 in the queter mile. Also, unless your friend is rich, he can't have those many Mustangs. The Cobra is also the better drifter, handler, and just plain more fun. (as discribed in that h2h comparison video)

a tenth is a good bit, but not a crushing defeat (and well within the margin of a drivers race)

Or smart with his money

Well watch your video again, if the termi was the better handling car, it it would have been closer or better in the road portion of the comparo - The guy who owns the terminator doesn't really know crock about Mustangs it seems, especially with the statement about being based on an old thunderbird compared to his car which is nothing more than some pretty sheet metal stretched over a 30 year old chassis band-aided with a hobbled together IRS (hats off to the guy that made it work, but its seriously compromised). The S-197 by comparison is lightyears ahead of the Fox/SN95 chassis in every measurable area.

Fun factor is purely subjective, personally I'd rate my old 07 GT (with FR3 suspension) as more fun than either my GT500 or the termi - it doesn't have the acceleration of either the GT500 or the termi, but it would **** sure run circles around either SVT car on a road course in terms of handling.

Hes plenty rich. And those are his opinions. How can he be wrong?? LOL He owns all those cars, he can speak from experience. The GT500 is faster then his cobra. Both stock. Whether you choose to believe it or not

thats a pretttty ignorant post there bud. Is it really that hard to beleive a man has 3 cars? It's pretty normal. don't assume that people "can't" do something just because its not something you are able to do.

Theres nothin wrong with the termy, I love em to death, but dont let your pride in your vehicle eclipse its actual merits or you'll find yourself looking like a tool.

OK LETS SEE. THIS IS My OPINION:
ENGINE WISE:
cobra-390hp lighter than the shelby.
gt500-NOT 500hp at the crank more like 470-480 but thats more than the cobra.
SUSPENSION WISE:
cobra:irs,kinda tail happy no understeer.FUN!
gt500-LRA,stable but too soft and it has quite alot of understeer.
INTERIOR WISE:
COBRA-****ty but practical (i am a cobra owner lol)
gt500-stylish, practical and pretty good
DESIGN WISE:
Cobra-sleek and mean
gt500-god ****!(winner)
QUALITY:
COBRA-well not bad but...
gt500-i dont have one but i think its a huge improvement over the sn-95
PRICE WISE:
COBRA-BANG FOR THE BUCK!
GT500-NOT SO MUCH

THE COBRA IS WAY MORE FUN IN A GOOD OLD FASHIONED WAY AND FOR ITS TIME IT WAS WELL................... A TERMINATOR!!!!The gt-500 on the other hand is more reliable and more powerful,BUT as i remember it was a pretty big disappointment when it came out compared to the cobra and was not what people expected!
So my opinion is that in 20 years the one that will be remembered and talked about will be the legendary cobra svt.

I think Mr. Metrioix is just trying to pull everyone's leg (hopefully) and is not being serious. Possibly another case of 'non-smilie' text taken the wrong way . . . . (I really hope I am right!)

Hands down a GT500. No PITA IRS to contend with, much better chassis, interior. Not to mention much better looking.

Got somethig to support that (and the B/S road dyno video from Top Gear doesn't count)? It seems odd to me after the 99 Cobra debacle, Ford wouldn't make **** sure the engine was at least capable of 500 at the crank (although it does seem to me GT500s have a rep for laying down in the heat - the air/water heat exchanger does seem on the small side).

ford's been known to underestimate power in many circumstances

nearly every mustang special edition since the 99 cobra problem has been underrated.

One of my favorites is when Motor Trend dynoed the 2000 Cobra R. 376rwhp.... 9hp drivetrain loss FTW! lol
