Terminator VS GT500
I saw another GT500 on the road today and its official I've seen more GT 500's on the street (not track) than I have Terminators. And I live in a large Metro (Memphis). I see plenty at the track but actual street driven I've seen a total of 3, 1 Yellow 1 Red and 1 Blue. So Far I've Seen a red, 2 Blue, and now one white GT 500. What are the production numbers on each?
GT 500 is a nice car no doubt but I still see the performance edge and the daunting character of a terminator is still higher than the GT 500 from what I see. I know on most other forums Terminators are like "OMG!!!!11!! Where the typical reaction to the GT 500 is ....well... understated.
So amongst the Mustang elite Which do you think is better? Why?
My opinion i think is known Termy>GT 500. Performance, Price.

I am also for the Terminators... price wise they have the GT500 beat, and also the Terminators are more mean (aggressive) looking to me.
I also heard they are easy to get into the 600hp range with few simple and cheap mods.
The Terminator is also my favorite car.

I choose the Termy not because I despise the GT500's lack of IRS, abundance of weight or highway robbery prices (which do kinda irk me) but because the former holds a special place in me heart. First mustang I ever sat in was an 04 Mystic Man O Man did I want that car

I'd definately pick the terminator because it's gotta be one of the best looking stangs ever!! I like the GT-500, but sometimes the front end bothers me. I like the regular GT (s197) front much better!

Id have to lean towards the 03/04. The new GT500 looks cool and has good performance potential but its too understated, too heavy, too expensive, and in stock trim, it doesn't handle that great. I also wonder if there was as much R&D put into it as the Terminator.

Eh, I've had so much exposure to 03-04 cobras I say GT500. The terminator was heavy, clumsy to drive, and had torture chamber ergonomics. For the SN-95's, the 01 cobra, Bullitt, and 03/04 Mach 1 were the best of the bunch. I don't know about terminators being scarce, they are all over the place here. Although I'm not so crazy about the porky weight and looks of the GT500.

Since when are you Irish?
I will say GT500. Give this car a few years, and it will become what the SVT Cobra is now. The reason we are so "ho-hum" about it now is because we here about it all the time and we have become "domesticated" to the GT500, and it no longer holds any pizaz in our minds. Kinda like a buffet. The first plate is always the best becuase you are so hungry, but everytime you go to get another helping, you care less and less about the food you are eating. Its called diminishing marginal return.

I like both.
Potential wise, the GT500 has the edge, BUT it also costs more, so it should have more potential(ideally speaking). A KB swap and throttle body resulted in 793 rwhp on a GT500 according to either 5.0 or MM&FF(I forget which).
I like Terminators a lot, and would love to own a Mystic one day. These Stangs also have monster potential. They have earned the rep that if you see one on the street you don't even think about challenging it. I'd imagine the GT500 will earn the same rep once the insane mark-ups go away and people that are true enthusiasts start driving them.

I would have to say IMO the GT500. Nothing against Terminators. they are too small for me. I had an old Fox back in the 80s. I am a big guy and I need big Muscle car. If they didn t come out with 197s, I would have NEVER brought another Mustang, (except per 72).

While the GT500 is a fine car and a decent extension beyond the Stang GT, I always thought the Terminator was a much better value and a far more ambitious advancement beyond its contemporary Stang GT.
While the GT500 is certainly a faster car and possesses all the inherent advantages the S197 platform has over the ancient SN95 platform of the Terminator, it is also a far more tepid endeavor overall for which Ford charges a far higher premium than they did with the Terminator and thus, represents much less bang-for-the-buck value.
Spec-wise, the GT500 is basically a tall-block Terminator lite (ignoring the heavy mass) minus some significant enhancements the Terminator had (IRS) and yet costs about double the premium over the base GT that the Terminator did.
Basically, I think Coletti did far more with less with the Terminator -- and charged much less -- than HTT did with the GT500.
