The Geek Out
What version/OS are you running? iMovie/iDVD have completely changed recently. Typically, you'd "export" it as a QuickTime, which would be a video you can play in iTunes. It's going to be one of those options.
I was able to save the movie to the desktop but it won't let me drag and drop or copy it onto the drives. Every time I do it just "floats" back to the desktop.
Ok, I'm currently exporting it to the USB. Hopefully it works this time. Supposed to take 37 minutes.
Haha ugh. iMovie projects are kinda complicated. Video editing stuff is not my strong suit, sorry I couldn't be more help. We never got training on any software stuff, unless we were promoted to be a trainer - I was not. I can coach you through photo editing, but video editing and exporting, I know the basics, but I also know apple has kinda screwed up with iMovie recently. On a new USB 3.0/SSD Mac, that transfer would take seconds. Obviously any computer with an SSD and USB 3.0 would be quick, but usually transferring stuff is so easy on macs - typically just drag and drop. You might not have been able to transfer it because it wasn't formatted - like if you exported it as a QuickTime to the desktop and not an iMovie project file, pretty sure that would have fixed it.
The file I saved to the desktop was a .mov file.
I found using iMovie to be very easy. It was how to actually save/export the file where I ran into issues. There's so many different options that it's hard to know which one to choose. As for speed, it took four hours to upload it to YouTube. If it had been the wifi at school it would have been a few minutes.

Now you're confusing me.
It's a 15" MacBook Pro. She just bought it late last summer. This one:

Nathan, have you considered just doing a factory reset on your laptop? If you've never just wiped it out and started from scratch, a lot of junk in there could be part of your problem! I do that to my desktop once or twice a year.
I just did a little over a month ago when it would do absolutely nothing anymore. Now its being a pain again and its falling apart anyways, so I think its just time for something new.
Okay, didn't know what you did. It would have been a good way to buy some time if it helped. Time for a new one I guess!
I need something more reliable.
