Auto Plant Forces Workers Who Own Fords, GMs To Walk
Non-Chrysler Vehicles Will Be Towed

POSTED: 8:22 am EDT May 9, 2005

KOKOMO, Ind. -- Workers at DaimlerChrysler's Indiana Transmission Plants I and II better allow more time for parking if they drive Fords or General Motors vehicles.

A new policy that took effect Monday designates about 80 percent of employee parking spaces at the plants for Chrysler vehicles only.

It forces workers to park much farther away if they drive a car or truck made by a competing manufacturer.

Workers have been told that non-Chrysler vehicles parked in the reserved areas will be towed to Indianapolis at a cost of $200.

A Chrysler spokesman said most Chrysler plants across the country have similar parking policies.

But nine-year employee Bill Parks, who drives a Pontiac, considers it harassment. He said he's being punished for exercising his freedom of choice.

Exclamation

Kinda reminds me of the company I work for... we have reserved Jeep Parking right in front of the main entrance.
The cool thing is, I have a corner office, so parkin' my Stang next to the Pres. & VPs Porsches makes for a shorter walk to my office from the side entrance.

I don't drive my Wrangler much anymore...

That is by far one of the dumbest policies I've ever heard.

Ah, just buy an old Jeep for little money and get better parking and keep the miles down on your primary vehicle.

The funny thing about it that if alltheir employees bought a Chrysler wouldnt Chrsyler make less money due to employee discounts? I bet if Chrysler was smart enough to make a great car like the stang in super high demand they wouldnt do this cause theyd be too busy filling dealer orders at $2500 or more over MSRP. Id rather walk then own a Chrslyer anyway, and from my experience you end up doing so alot

Uhh, Chrysler does make a car with high demand. It's called the 300. And I am not sure how Chrysler's plans work, but Ford dealerships are not obligated to honor plan pricing.

So the 300 has maxed the capacity of the line it is running on? I honestly didnt realize that the demand on it was that high. Its decent looking but nothing special IMO. And I cant wait until they get a new line other than "That thing got a Hemi" in their commercials. Just once Id like to see it asked and have the guy toss them some Preparation H and say "This oughta fix your Hemi"
