Can our '05 - '09 models be hacked??

Does anyone know? When we saw the Chryslers being hacked (engines turned off, etc..) we figured our Mustang was too old, but does anyone know for sure? Not like it will happen but still wondering.

Hacked how? Haven't heard of this yet.

Wow just found the article. I doubt it the 4.6s are old school PCM not canbus. The canbus allows multiple systems to talk back and forth like a small computer network add in the fact that they are wireless capable and now you have the issue. Modern cars use electronic controlled power steering and cruise control has limited access to brake pressure. So in theory its possible and I've read articles on airplanes being hacked through wifi. But with the age of our PCMs they just are not advanced enough to have that vulnerability also no wifi. So they would have to be physically connected to it to make those kinds of changes.

This is specifically a Chrysler problem due to the way their computer system was designed. Also, unless you have Ford SYNC installed, your car cannot be hacked remotely. It has to be internet connected. And no, that does not include your satellite radio.

EDIT: Here's an article about it. http://www.wired.com/2015/07/patch-c...ing-technique/

Thanks for the article link. Sometimes new isn't always better.

I just heard on a news program that cars with the GM OnStar are now vulnerable. A hacker has been able to unlock and start the car with a cell phone.
