Top Gear is back!
Common sense is what makes me think they're insured.
Not being insured would be horribly irresponsible of them and would create massive liability problems for the Top Gear production team and the BBC.
FYI, there also has to be insurance on the presenters and the production crew during filming.

their coverage for the crew and all could probably cover the cars as well. who knows, i hate the way that everything in america comes down to liability issues.
sometimes i just want to move to europe.
yeah some of it is staged, but not all of it. i def dont think the gas station was.

Here's another link to part of Ep. 3, where they're driving through Alabama and get assaulted at the gas station:

I gotta say, they were asking for it, though. And it's not a fair representation of all of America...or all of Alabama, I'm sure.
That said, I laughed my a$$ off!
Remember, too, there are parts of England where the people are pretty backwards as well, and STILL can't say "the rain in spain stays mainly on the plain" without slurring their dialect, oy.
We could just as easily go over there, buy three cars, and write stuff on those cars like, "The Queen is a lesbian," or "Manchester United and football [meaning soccer] suxs," and I'm sure the reaction on the part of the natives would be equally "warm."

BC - you watched this episode and you still think these guys are too responsible to drive cars uninsured in the US? If you're gonna pick on this show for being staged, there are so many better examples than whether or not they insured the jalopies they got for this episode.
To me a perfect example of something that was probably staged was setting fire to the caravan in their camping episode last year. I'm sure it really happened, and I doubt they warned the firefighters cause they woulda been ****ed. But I wouldn't be surprised if Clarckson was actually trying to set the thing on fire.
On the whole I would say this episode was very real, especially the scene at the gas station.
Comments like at the end, about the church suing them, I don't think that was meant to be taken seriously, but a lot of the time it can be hard to tell whether they're serious or not.

I'd love to see out-takes and blooper reels from this show.
In last night's episode 4 they say that Clarkson bought a lambo and got rid of his Ford GT (again) They also make a space ship out of a car.
I thought the fire in the caravan seemed like it was on purpose too, but you can't know for sure. I like that you can't really tell if something happened on purpose or not. They probably do that so that they don't have to ask if they can do something and risk being told no.
