Apologies to the Francophiles.
What about the Renault RS26 90° 2.4L V8? With 700 bhp @ 20000 rpm's, it consistantly makes it through two race weekends.

But it didn't make it through three.

It'll be interesting to see where, and how fast, Ford goes with its new 3.5. Even in its, relatively speaking, rather moderate first release, it's putting out something like 260hp on low test swill. More importantly, it looks like it was designed with a lot of overhead for future power. So will a ~275-300hp base V6 Stang be too far off in the future? Which would of course press the V8's numbers upwards.
I imagine if Ford continually tweaks the 3.5L to get more power out of it (as they should), then we will see them doing the same for the 4.6L or switching to the 5.4L for the GT. I believe the 4.6L has a LOT more potential though.

Everybody (almost) always just looks at one price when deciding on a car. If you truly want to compare a G35 with a Mustang, you need to compare "total cost of ownership". I can bet bombs to boat anchors that full coverage insurance on a G35 is more than a Mustang. Take into account that you can't buy many aftermarket repair parts or any upgrades for a decent price, you've got a Corvette tax buildup.

At that point, the performance of a G35 doesn't look that good to me.

One of my previous cars was a 1994 Infiniti J30. If Infinitis are now like they were 6 years ago, repair/maintenance costs are astronomical.

Anything "upscale" (read Infinity, Lexus, BMW, Audi, MB etc. etc) automatically means service gouging. To own an "upscale" or "premium" level car, you immediately become the target of $100 oil changes and $700 brake jobs. Of course they will argue that maintenance is covered for long periods of time on these cars but in my opinion, when you pay $40,000+ for a car, I would expect that all of it would be covered for some time. Eventually though, that deal runs out.
