Performance Numbers For New G35 Sedan
C&D G35 6MT review...
0-60: 5.2s
1/4 mile: 13.9s at 103 mph
This is using the 3.5L VQ. And the coupe supposedly will get the 3.7L version of the same engine. Suddenly the Mustang GT's V8 performance doesn't look so good.
0-60: 5.2s
1/4 mile: 13.9s at 103 mph
The Highs
"it hunkered down and dashed to 60 mph in 5.2s, covering the 1/4 mile at 13.9s at 103 mph. ... More impressive still, our G35 tester went to the track with fewer than 250 miles on the odo. That's like putting an Olympic sprinter in the starting blocks in his street clothes. What'll it do with a proper break-in? We look forward to finding out."
"The power feeds through a six-speed manual that's the personification of precise engagement--it makes the 3 series manual seem rubbery..."
"This honey can dance as fast as you can pedal, without a misstep and without punishing its partner in the ride department. ... It's a setup that delivers Bimmer-esque compliance, and if the 3-series still holds an edge in this area, the distinctions have become paper thin."

What I AM saying is that the Stang's V8 performance is being quickly challenged by a V6 vehicle...meaning Ford may want to consider a performance boost to the GT post-haste.

Up in canada a G35 coupe is $10,000 more than a loaded Mustang GT. That helps pay for a high-feature V6 tuned for premium fuel, in addition to all those other creature comforts.

And, it wouldn't be the first time (or last time) a V6 out performed a V8 ... As with any car there are always trade-offs in price/performance. The Mustang is one of the cars where Ford got it right ...
In many cases, that isn't always true of FMC in the recent past, unfortunately.

With the G-You're Paying a premium on price, a premium on fuel, and giving up uncontested "Cool Car" status simply for somethign that handles and accelerates better. big deal, there's plenty of cars that perform better than the Stang with better engineering. You buy a Stang becuase you want a Stang, the performance is what we seek in our Mustangs in order to have fun with them, but it is not the single appealing characteristic of the nameplate.

I bought my Stang for one reason and one reason only IT LOOKS AWESOME I have always been one to buy what I think looks good. I couldn't give a rat's *** if it didn't perform as good as it does, it would still look great.

That VQ engine family is pretty impressive, especially with its substantial overhaul for '07. Hat's off to Nissan for a job well done.
It'll be interesting to see where, and how fast, Ford goes with its new 3.5. Even in its, relatively speaking, rather moderate first release, it's putting out something like 260hp on low test swill. More importantly, it looks like it was designed with a lot of overhead for future power. So will a ~275-300hp base V6 Stang be too far off in the future? Which would of course press the V8's numbers upwards.

Or for even less get a Mustang GT and have the Ford Racing handling and engine tuning packages installed...
