2014 Chevrolet SS teased in Holden VF Commodore photos

February 11, 2013

Chevy has a new muscle car.

But you can’t see it until Saturday.

Impatient?

That’s OK, because GM has given us a sneak peek.

The 2014 Chevrolet SS is set to make its debut at Daytona International Speedway in conjunction with the season-opening Sprint Unlimited race on February 16th. A successor to the short-lived Pontiac G8, the full-size sports sedan also forms the basis of Chevy’s latest NASCAR entry.

Like that car, the four-door SS was engineered and will be built by GM’s Australian division, Holden, which sells its own version of the vehicle called the VF Commodore. Over the weekend it released the first official photos of that car, offering preview what the SS will look like.

A clear evolution of the G8, the new car features a headlight and split grille design similar to recent Chevy models, and an all-new, upscale interior. In Australia it will be available with a selection of six and eight-cylinder engines, while the SS is expected to be positioned as a range-topping halo car powered exclusively by a very potent V8.

To that end, images of an incomplete clay model of the yet to be revealed high performance version of the VF Commodore have also surfaced, and it shares several visual elements with the SS race car, suggesting an even closer resemblance to the car that will be sold here.

We’ll find out just how close soon enough

Not bad, but not great . . .

I think I like the 2014 Impala design better.

Dull

Looks far too much like the Regal, which we get over here as a Vauxhall Insignia.

Well I've been anticipating this car since it was announced. It could be plain or extravagantly designed and it really doesn't make a difference. 4dr, V8, rwd, welcome back. No Chrysler doesn't count. Maybe Ford will have an answer to it. This car may be the wife's new ride. Undecided till I see it in person.

I hope the SS can still pull off a more agressive look. The luxury Comodores have always looked plain (to me) but the HSV models (our VXR8 and your G8) have had sufficient changes to the front/rear facias etc, to look a lot meaner.

Well I had 2 of these. Nothing really aggressive looking but just enough touches to look great. Still was the best driving car I've ever owned. Was really hoping they would borrow the Holden Caprice body for the SS though.

Never was a fan of that look. From a Pontiac family and the G8 did nothing for me.

I liked it a lot, especially after seeing a white one in person, the rear end is meh but the front end I liked, especially the hood.
But yeah everyone has their own taste in cars.

I'm finally coming back to Ford after decades away from domestic cars, but Generous Motors and ChryCo; just can't do it. I just can't accept that a company that had to be bailed out after making years of bad decisions can be as prepared to be a lean and mean, take no prisoners competitor and produce the kind of car that would convince me to switch from Honda. Ford has done it by standing on its own two feet and making tough decisions to become a serious global competitor. I'm very impressed and can't wait to take delivery of my 2014 Mustang.

Bailout schmailout. Get over it already. The Germans killed the Jews but nobody's hating on VW anymore. I'm just happy to see the Big 3 still kicking. GM still makes a few great vehicles. Ford still makes a few great vehicles. Chrysler still makes something. Greedy executives will do shameful things. Don't hate on an American iconic company because of a few ****s in suits. Blame Big Oil if you have to blame anyone for the crisis a few years back.

This. A good car is a good car.....I don't care what the badge is on the nose. I'm sure this one will drive great......but they need to ensure the looks are right too

Well they screwed up with the GTO. The G8 looked just like a BMW with a nose job. Not sure why they just don't keep the Holden styling with a bow tie up front. The caprice had promise.
