A little update on my Fairmont project. I got the Mustang 8.8 rearend swapped in, need to finish putting a few things back together from that and probably replace the brake lines on the axle and bleed the brakes, might put new wheel cylinders in too while I'm at it. This summer I get a little bonus from work, so at that point I will find a 5.0 and auto trans to install in place of the weak sixxer.
Well I got spanked by everything under the sun today, Hondas, toyotas, Go-Karts and half the ladies classes.
Ran a slow 63 seconds and a fastest of 58, but the fastest in my class was a 49. I just spun tires the whole course. I think I finished 6th out of 5 cars.

Like rght at the beginning for example.. You accelerate hard for a second, go past that pointer cone, then you're coasting for like 100 feet until that right turn.. That's wasted time.

Hey Darrell,
I commend you for doing this. I have been to alot of this type of racing with friends that do it but never, never my car. Here is what I know if you really want to win. I heard no tires squealing in the corners at all. The guys that run this to win replace tires every 3-4 races and brakes every 6 or so if that tells you anything about how you need to step up your driving if you really want to win. It ain't a cheap sport to get into.

If you're going to really compete you'll need brakes about every three events and tires about every five. Or if you just want to have fun, then be happy with your times and thankful that blue Roush doesn't race.
Thanks for all the advice guys. I want to get 1 of my daughters there to video some of the faster drivers to see their braking points. Almost everybody are using Hoosier A-6 Racing tires. I do have my stock rims (8.5" wide) and looked up the Tire Racks price to fit the biggest tires on them.... only $1200 what a bargain!!!! Also looking to get bigger brakes on the front.. again about $1500 to 2500 One of the drivers that have a new Boss 302 told me that I had to much power and was just sliding around on my street tires. I did think it was funny to see all these small cars arriving with tiny trailers with just a jack and a set of tires on them.
Scottie the tires were sqeeling alittle, I just had the full back cover on the camera, cuz the engine was louder than hell when I was driving. I just changed it to the open back.
Next race May 20 again at Tire Rack. The only thing I can change will be to try the 3rd hole on the front sway bar.
Tommie bring that boat down and I'll pay your way in.

Also, no need to spend $1500 on a big brake kit. Bigger doesn't equal better. Just get some upgraded discs and pads and good brake fluid. Check out this kit at brenspeed, http://www.brenspeed.com/86-330-01415.html
Better discs and pads and stickier wheels, you'll stop on a dime. Don't need the extra cost of big brake kit IMHO
I'm actually looking at the Nitto NT-01 tires for my wider rims and would use them for everyday driving. I'm running BF Goodrich KD (old style thread) 265/35/18 on the fronts and Nitto's NT-05 295/35/18 on the backs.

Your paid for the next race just unload the anchor at home. You'll be in F/Stock. A 2012 Mustang won take class with a 49 second run, actually faster than the 2 Boss 302's.
just brought the next grade up Hawk brake pads. I will run them only on race day. Also looking at the Fays2 watt linkage. Anybody have some infor on that??? ($650). Probably will keep the tires I have on for this season and look to inprove next year.
Sure is lonely in here. I hate talking to myself, I get into way to many augerments that I lose.
Well I got my Race Day Brake pads today, I adjusted the front sway bar to the tightest setting, I bleed the brakes and put new ATE Super Blue Dot 4 fluid in.
I hate carring change (coins) around so I have a tupperware tub I throw them into. Since the 1st of the year $121. This is my new Racing Tire Fund. Hope to be able to get these next Spring.

I still have the stock 225/50/18 tire (1 is plugged), think I could get $200 for them (only 5000 miles on them.)?
