Cody I seriously mean this. I don't want to be the reason you can't enjoy your car. Send the CAI back to me and I'll refund your money and say I'm sorry for your inconvenience. I wouldn't have a problem heating it up, but being somewhat of a novice at this kind of thing, I don't want you to do something that will leave you with a completely unusable CAI. Just let me know. As I said in the PM, I'll refund your money and you can send it back when you get a new one from Brenspeed. If you have a problem with the new one, then you can get with Brenspeed about fixing it and I won't have to worry about my old CAI being the trouble.

Dave seems to be fairly positive that my problem is coming from some residual oil/gunk in the throttle body. He says that he was aware of the shape of my CAI, but still thinks it should have been fine. He's says this is a common problem, and if the install guys didn't take they're time, it could have been overlooked easily. He even recalls seeing some in there when he walked by during my install but just figured the guys would have taken care of it. So... I'm going to pop off the elbow and investigate.
I call this good news!

Cody I'm off all day tomorrow and open Thursday till 2. If you want to meet some where, I can take off your Throttle Body and clean it and also take a look at your CAI if you want.
Just don't stand to close to me as that bolt of Lightening is due to hit you at anytime now.

OK...
Took some pictures... but as my luck would have it, my work computer doesn't have an SD input....so they will have to wait. I popped off the elbow (wasnt that scary) and poked a rag into the throttle body. There was a little gunk in there, but not a whole lot. I took a picture of it on my rag. Anyway, Bolted it back up (I think better than breenspeed did..covered the warp better) and drove it to work this morning. I think I fixed it!. I didn't notice Any erratic idling at all.
I did get a good look at how warped the elbow is, and I must say that it was VERY noticeable, and I do NOT remember it ever looking like that. I think would have noticed it.
This is the only picture I took of it before I sent it to brenspeed... its upside down... so I don't have any evidence.
Or maybe Gary packaged it that way on purpose.....

Hey Cody,
The gunky problem with a TB is not so much on the side you can see when it is on the car. The most gunk will be on the back side of the TB blades and housing that you can't see. The proper way to clean a TB is to remove it from the engine and clean it completely inside and out with TB cleaner.

Well.. Dave told me to just poke my fingers through the blades and wipe what I could. Seems to be working. I'm getting ready to leave for an ultrasound, so I'll get to see if its still running up to snuff.

I cleaned mine at 30K. Wasn't having any problem but kept reading about others that was. It was pretty dirty. I think the gunky crap comes from the PCV line. It plugs into the manifold right behind the TB.

I'm back! Ran like a champ the whole time.... even through all the stop and go down town intersections and a parking garage... nice strong idle the whole way!
