Funny, my family has worked at the Mobil refinery in Torrance, CA for as long as I can remember. They were Mobil back when my grandfather started there and they are still the same refinery. Nothing has changed there, according to my uncles.

Tom, my uncle just went to Texas a couple months ago. He has something to do with the safety for the refinery here. Not sure what he was down there for.

 

There are two EM refineries in Texas: Baytown and Beaumont. Do you know which one he went to?

I usually run shell 93 with my 93 tune, mostly because there are 3 shell stations close to me. but i really don't have a preference. i just get gas when i need it from whatever station is closest or cheapest.

I'm running Brent's (brenspeed.com) 92 Octane Tune for the Steeda CAI. Using whats available to the 'end user' on the SCT2 I've advanced my spark timing 2 degrees @ low and high ends of rev range, 4 degrees in middle of rev range. I also richened by 10% the WOT A/F ratio. I run w/ a throttle body spacer w/ Steeda CAI which can lean out the high end, so the 10% richer WOT A/F helps out a lot.

I get the best performance from my pony running with BP/Amoco 93 octane. Other premium fuels, such as Citgo or Chevron, and the car just does not feel right.

Given the 'hot' tune, I cannot run mid-grade (89) or even think about putting in 87. The car would ping fiercely. I'd have to reflash again & take out my spark timing and WOT A/F settings in order to run the cheap stuff. That'd be no fun @ all.

 

Agreed --. I keep the SCT2 handy, but high and dry in a safe place. Part of the reason I spent the extra $100 bucks on SCT2 is the extra flexibility. If necessary, I can reflash my pony back to 'dull mode' and have it run on p*sswater gas w/ no hot spark, etc if necessary. I keep the SCT2 high and dry and in a safe place.

It's about time....
BP got a bad rap with GM cars, but he used to work for the city and they tested the gas and he said BP was the cleanest and hi-quality.
I still go to Marathon or sometimes the cheapest.
Think about how much you save even if it's 5cents cheaper.
on a full tank you would save about $1.00.
you waste that much gas on 3 wholeshots at the red lights.

I also work for XOM, and Mobil before the merge and respectfully disagree with the marketing hype. The Mobil lubricants products have been cost engineered and the brand diluted with several 'grades' of synthetic at retail to the point no one is sure what they are buying or comparing to any longer. Lab analysis for numerous vehicles long running only Mobil Synthetics took drastic increases in wear after changes in formulations. Lab analyst recomendations to change suppliers have met with far better numbers, much more in line with numbers obtained prior to the XOM merge.

Yes Exxon wanted the marketing strength and reputation of the Mobil Lubricants brand as their own did not enjoy such renoun. They are doing thier dead level best to loose exactly what they paid for. I for one am quite sorry to witness it happen. I do not expect you to agree with my viewpoint. It is mine and what I and some others have observed. Obviously you feel differently. We agree to disagree.

 

I normally fill up at Speedway. There's one close by that is almost always a few cents cheaper than anything else around. Gas mileage seems respectable as well: around 17-18 MPG city driving.

Second choice is normally BP or Shell

 

I use only top tier gas--usually Chevron or 76, whichever is cheaper at the time.

 

The reason is they are always the lowest priced and I get a 2% cash back on my purchase. Got to love that.......

That's not correct. Chevron and Texaco merged and as a result, the SEC required them to divest certain assets, including an R&D joint venture Texaco had with Shell (Equilon) and also certain retail outlets in the Southwest US. I don't know about anywhere else, but where I live, most of the Texaco stations were converted to Shell stations. We've also had a few Chevron stations convert to Shell also.

 

Thanks for the correction, in Washington state I`ve seen Texacos turn into Shell. I do a lot of western to midwest driving and haven`t seen a Texaco for a long time. I use to frequent them all the time for the Lipton rasberry ice tea at the fountain.

 

According to an article I just read, the Texaco brand is coming back. ChevronTexaco has decided to revive it. You might start seeing Texaco stations springing up again.
