The 07 Mustang will have The TPMS or Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Something to Consider if you Plan on Using Custom Wheels or Changing Wheel Diameter. The TPMS if Different For 16,17 and 18 Inch Wheels. No other Listings At This Point What do You Do if you Want to Run 19"s or 20"s. Hello Wheel Companies. Anyway Keep in Mind if an 07 is in your Future Plans Wheels May be an Issue. Also are Some Aftermarket Wheels even Compatible with the System. FYI! Better to Check it out Before a Wheel Change Happens.I know it's Early but heh This is TMS!

Sweet, I wonder if there will be a way to retrofit these to the 05-06's?

If the system works anything like that on my wife's '04 Lexus RX330, you don't want it. I've had one tire out of four down 9 lbs and the system doesn't triger a warning light. It's useless in my opinion. Now if Ford would offer things we REALLY want like heated seats, a sunroof, and satellite radio, that would be a different story.

Ugh, I hope I can turn that stuff off w/a tuner so I can run snows/steelies and ET Streets on drag rims.

I wouldn't get it. My Tundra has this feature. I wanted to get 20" rims for it but was told I can't because the TPMS's sending unit won't fit. It's an option for old ladies who don't know how to check their tire pressure..

My father has that tpms feature in his 97' corvette. What a pain in the butt. Those numbers are always flashing with the incorrect pressure. From what i've read on these, if you need new tires or you want to rotate the tires you need to reflash those sensors so the computer knows where the sensors are. Exapmle: If you rotate front to back. The sensors still think the front sensors are in the front but now are in the rear of the car. If that makes sense. Unless ford uses a different system.

My understanding is that the "base" TPMS (with the warning light) is a federal requirement on all '07 vehicles.

Federal Motor vehicle safety standards - TPMS

According to the above link, light vehicles must have this as standard equipment no later than September 2007.

I have a 02 corvette convertible with the tpms system and i have never had any trouble with it and it is 4 years old it works great all of the time and i just put 18 up front and 20 on the rear to replace the 17/18 and i didnt have any problem with the oversize wheels so ford wont have any problem with theres either.
the aftermarket wheel companys will start makeing there wheels work with the new system belive me are they will loose thousands of $$$$$ and they wont do that so as time gets closer they all will be offering it in there wheels.

That's so stupid, IMO. It's a Ford Mustang, not a Lincoln.

TPMS is just a useless gimmick IMO, and I am glad I don't have it. I'll take the freedom in tire wheel choices any day. I can visually tell if my tire pressure is low, and if I get a flat, I fix it. Haven't ever needed a computer to tell me when.....especially an unreliable one at that.

This federal requirement is all because of the explorer/firestone stuff isn't it? These little things break very easy when you put on new tires. They're REALLY expensive too.

It's nothing but a gimmick and is only useful to old ladies and happy men from San Francisco who can't tell the difference between a good tire and a flat one.

The system doesn't give actual tire pressure, it just beeps at you when you blow a tire. By then it's too late, and you're already spinning out. Instead of looking at the road, you're distracted to look at the message center, and guess what, you just hit the wall and you die. Thanks Ford.

So it's come to this...George Bush has finally been blaimed for everything. Sigh: People need to go back to their highschool government class. Do you really think Bush was sitting as his desk one day and thought..."we need tire pressure warning systems in Mustangs!!!" C'mon now people.

Funny... I seem to recall that the US Department of Transportation (and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) is a cabinet-level department that ultimately reports to the President of the United States. Has something changed in the last 5 years to alter this???

Oh and by the way this rule is a re-instatement of a ruling that was issued in 2002. It was struck down by the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 2003. The court threw out the previous rule and ordered the DOT to start over. As such this is the second iteration of this rule.
