Stop hating on V6.
A lot of insurance companies have a 300hp bump. Anything at, near or over 300hp have a nice little premium that goes with it. I haven't seen the rates yet, but I would guess $10-15 bucks more a month for a GT on my premium (33 nothing on the record in the last two years).
yeah i was really suprised this month when i got our insurance bill. it went from $1865.00/year to 1222.00/year. 35% reductoin. my wife and i both have clean records and full coverage (50/100/25) on both of our cars. even with a small bump up in insurace, it should still be affordable.
now once you get it and start racking up the points for speeding...
that may change.

My insurance agent told me the two biggest considertions when determining insurance levels are:
- Theft Rate
- Repair Cost

And I always thought the one's driving record and age had something to do with it. Are DUIs OK too?
[/b][/quote]I was refering to the models used for insurance pricing on the car itself (aka the baseline insurance rate). Age and driving record are modifiers on that price.
I'm 23 with one at-fault wreck. The at-fault comes off record in time for my next renew which saves $35 a month, then when I turn 25 thats another 30 to 50 off.
If all I could afford was the v6 then I would buy the v6. Yea, you will be thinking that you wanted the v8 but hey its still a mustang. Maybe a few years down the road you throw a v8 in it when you got the scratch.
It's not that I don't like the V6 models, I just prefer the power and appearance packages of the GT's. One way to look at the power is the 2005 V6 almost has the same power as my 97 GT, torque on the otherhand is a different story.

As far as the 96-98gt cars. How much tq. did they make? I thought they were 215hp/240tq. Sounds pretty close to me. I may be wrong.

You were right with the 215 hp, but the tq number was 285 in those years.
the fuel economy difference between the v6 and the gt will be minimul, on the hiway. my driving is done around town with lots of stop light to stop light driving...that's where the v8 will KILL you in fuel economy...in fact the v6 is too big in my opinion...4.0 liters is a big motor whether it's 6 or 8 cylinders...the bigger the displacement the worse the fuel economy is...especially in stop and go driving. i would have preferred the jaguar version of the duratec v6...much lighter than the 4.0 and revs like heck...another advantage would be the handling...with the fewer pounds over the front end the v6 3.0 would be a dream in the twisties.
oh, by the way crude is selling for 48.00$/barrel on the spot market....the v6 is looking better and better. jackg 90seville 95k
