Stop hating on V6.
I just talked with my insurance company and there is a whole 4 dollar a month difference on a gt compared to a v6. There goes that myth about the high insurance is the reason you pick v6's. I have no problems with v6's if your just a consumer but if your a mustang enthusiast you should be in a v8 car to see the full capability of it.

Even with the V6 I'll be able to burn 80% of the other "sports" cars on the road.

Yeah, right.
Um... I checked on prices for my insurance (State Farm) a few months ago, and the GT is at least a $50/month bump over the V6. I'm 20, and have a spot-free driving record. So, that myth isn't a myth at all.

Of course, my Mustang is under Mommy's name and so is the insurance (I am covered since I barely live at home still and State Farm's "umbrella" covers all drivers in same household).
If the insurance was in my name, premium rockets to like $1800!!
If you get insurance, get STATE FARM -- theee best.
Well I am 24 and married. Clean record. He quoted me 480 for a v6 or 484 on the gt. Thats through allstate. I guess it depends on your insurance company though. Still I would pay 50 dollars extra every 6 months on a better all around car.
No, no, no, no...
I need to rephrase that... well, actually, I don't...
My insurance uses monthly rates.
And, yeah, being 24 and married helps a lot with insurance on anything.

I'm 23 with a minor at fault on my record (speeding ticket prior to that, now off record). Fortuntely the wreck comes off when my insurance re-ups in December. But for a V8 I believe it was $1,320 for 6 mo., the V6 was in the ball park of $1,000.
I also have State Farm. Like I said, agency and driving record changes a lot.

There is no difference in Insurance for me over here, but when you think that most cars are <2.0l, the insurance co is not that bothered whether the engine is 3.8/4.0 or 4.6!
- Theft Rate
- Repair Cost

Anyone know if the V6 is a all new motor? I was thinking it might of been the one from the mazda6 but that one is only a (3.0L DOHC 24-valve V6 engine with Variable Valve Timing) and also not the 2004 mustang V6 (Engine: 3.8L V6 OHV SMPI) where as the new stangs V6 is a (4.0L SOHC V6)...so is this a all new motor?

you sure about this being same motor as ranger?...
ranger: 207hp @ 5,250RPM straight from fords web page
new mustang: 200hp @ 5,400RPM from ( http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=2246 )
would it be just different tuning?
Yup. Same basic motor, which can trace its lineage all the way back to the Mercury Capri Cologne V6 (originally 2.6L) back in 1973 (and you thought the Fox chassis was ancient!). Not a bad motor, quite revised over time, but perhaps a bit long in tooth. Here's hoping for the new Cyclone 3.5 DOHC in a year or two.
gas is anywhere from 2.00/gallon to 2.20/gallon for regular where i live...the cost of the v8 over a v6 over the life of the vehicle is significant to me. anyone who commutes will pay a sizeable amount more in fuel costs over the life of the vehicle...
from someone who has lived through the two gas crunches...you won't be seeing gas go back to 1.50 anytime soon...soooo....think long and hard about getting a v-8...it's a decision you will live with for a long time and pay for, dearly...jackg 90seville 94k jackg 90seville 95k

What does a v6 get mpg? My 00gt got anywhere from 25-26 . If highly doubt the v6 is getting any better than that. Someone with a v6 pls tell us your mpg.

Mustang has a 12 Gallon Tank (I belive the OM states this) so in the city you gain an extra 24 miles driving, highway an extra 60 miles driving. Of course manufacture estimates are usually a touch on the conservative side in my experiences (My Civic gets 26/32 and I think it was estimated at 24/28 .

Well I would say its time to check into other insurances. I am 22 and the difference between a 2000 Mustang V6 (red, my old car) and a 2001 Roush Mustang GT vert (blue, my new car with half the mileage) was $9 for 6 mo. with Nationwide. I had State Farm before and everything else was much higher.

LOL. George is right.
And if you're under 25 years, your age is probably 80% of the reason you're paying what your paying.
Its like:
Him: "How old are you?"
You: "20"
Him: "$3000 per year"
You: "Don't you want to know what car?"
Him: "Doesn't matter kid, we don't want you driving anything with 4 wheels. Plus, they all look the same wrapped around a tree"
You: "BMX still sell bikes?"
