Stop hating on V6.
The V6 is more powerful the than the 8 that was out a few years back.
I had a yellow V6 with the Appearance Package (spoiler/stripe), rip by me down Telegraph Road (those in SE Michigan will know this road well) and he by no means was slow. The car took off like a bullet and weaved around traffic for a mile. Of course, due to the stoplights, I caught up to him. We both just grinned.
FWIW, I like the looks of the stock V6, sans spoiler and minus those two headlights better. I can see why the spoiler delete option on the GT will be popular.
Read the Order Guide. Ford will sell alot more V6's than GT-8s and not all of them will be bought by "chicks".
I sat in a Sonic Blue GT today. It was parked just down from my Sonic Blue SVT '02 Focus (which by the way is for sale...great car, just need to save for the 'Stang). After getting out of the new 'Stang, I was in "Love". I will buy this car next spring or summer, depending on how much I can save to put down on it. Seeing as I will hit my 40th B-day next May and get a nice dip in insurance, I think I will opt for the fast one...
Buy what you like and like what you buy.

Hey, I'm a 22 year old guy and I am going to go with the V6. As far as lack of power? Well within the first year I'll be saving up for that Supercharger and CAI thank you.

Well Ford can't really help with my insurance premiums or personal property taxes (which happen to be fairly high where I live). I don't plan on ricing it. In fact I think that is stupid. However, If I can get a well off V6 for 21,000 and put 3,500 into to boost the power quite a bit, well, that's about the base price (probably) of a new GT w/out extras. But I'm just chiming in. In fact, I would prefer a GT, but financing would be a problem for me.
The lower the starting price, the better the chance I get my Stang.
Be careful assuming that the insurance is in fact cheaper -- you may not be covered at all if you put a supercharger on. A lot of policies have a clause that voids the coverage if a power adder is used.
Are you planning on buying a V6 brand new? Within 6 months to a year, their will be plenty of used GT's on sale for way under MSRP.

I'm getting a little tired of all the V6 abuse on this website. Yes, I know they are not as powerful, and yes the V6 mustang seems to be labled as a "Chick Car", but please stop the hate. If that is all people can afford then let it be. I have heard a member say "I would kill myself if I had a V6." Also, even people's individual rankings begin with "V6 member." Before you say, "We dont hate them, they are just not powerful" know this... V6 mustangs are a lot more powerful than a lot of comparable cars on the road now. They are more powerful than the V6 accords and civics, and other import jibberish. Owning a mustang is awesome enough, don't rip on people who have a V6. Please.

Anyone know if the V6 is a all new motor? I was thinking it might of been the one from the mazda6 but that one is only a (3.0L DOHC 24-valve V6 engine with Variable Valve Timing) and also not the 2004 mustang V6 (Engine: 3.8L V6 OHV SMPI) where as the new stangs V6 is a (4.0L SOHC V6)...so is this a all new motor?
V6s are allright. I'm glad they are around, because they make up more than 50% of the Stang market. I haven't really seen V6 bashing here, but I have seen a few people express their personal opinions. Isn't that what discussion boards are for?
Here's mine: I have owned 9 Mustangs, they were all V8s, and I wouldn't change that for the world. My roommate has a V6, and it doesn't compare. I'll never own a V6 Stang. My Explorer has a 4.0L V6, but my car has gotta have the V8. American muscle!!!

My 89 GT would get 27mpg on the highway in 5th. gear. Around town short shifting I would get about 20 mpg. Not bad with 300 ft. lbs. of tire shredding torque off the line! It all comes down to how agressive you drive just be selective when you unleash them Ponies

I have owned both and can tell you that I NEVER had a clean driving record when owning a GT. The past 3 Mustangs I have had have all been V6's and my 05 will be also. Insurance is cheaper, Property Taxes are cheaper & Gas is Cheaper and my driving record is completely clean. Just my 2 cents worth. Never really noticed any V6 bashing here though.

Personally I wouldnt own a v6 if I can buy a better all around car for 4-5 thousand more. The same reason that when I get my f250 I will be getting a diesel in it. The performance of the diesel highly out performs the v10 or the v8.

I dont see how in the world that your property tax went up because you had a gt compared to a v6.

From the Mustang US Order Guide
Recommended Mix: V6 "Deluxe" 55%, V6 "Premium" 13%, V8 "Deluxe" 12%, V8 "Premium" 20%
Dealers are suggested to carry 68% V6 to 32% V8 stock... Nough said.
I personally will be getting a V6 instead of a V8 for many reasons... Top of that list is A) I like to look of the V6 More (I prefer the spinner rims, and no fogs), and the cost of the car loaded is near 8k less then the GT (It appears the V6 will top out around 22 to 23 while the V8 will top out around 30). If I want to by a house in the next 5 years I have to go cheaper on the car.
Other reasons for getting a V6 opposed to a V8 are Insurance, and the fact that the most horses I have ever had in a car is 105 (95 Civic DX 4 Banger). So getting a boost of nearly 106 horses will be a whole new experience for me!

Property tax is for homes not cars. Unless your buying a something worth 100,000.00 and then its a luxury tax. A car has nothing to do with your home therefore has nothing to do with your property. You will pay a little more tax on your tag if your state is like ga and charges a avilorium tax(forgive my spelling I am sure I just butchered that up). Still has nothing to do on with your property.
V6 hating? where? when? anyway if there is any going on, pay attention haters! now i personally would prefer the GT over the V6, but the V6 has many admirable qualities. first off, it kept the stang alive, seeing as it counted as most of sales in history. second, if there weren't so many V6's around, we would appreciate the power of the GT and other upgraded models less. third, some people just can't afford a GT so the V6 is there only way to have their own little piece of the musclecar era. i personally may have to go with the V6 in a few years simply for thst financial reason (fifteen year olds dont make to much) but i'll be happy. at least i'll still be able to burn most of the imports in the area, and with a few mods, perhaps all of them. but just to be fair, i'll say one fo the things about our V6 that really irks me. Why aint it an inline? like the aussie falcons!!! those cars are sweet.
oh yah, i know this is kinda off topic, but whats the excahnge for Aussie $ to US$. i wanted to know b/c the aussies have to pay $89K for their mustangs (but their all GTs). just wanted to compare that to our prices..

Sidenote: I've driven my parents Ford Escape which has the 3.0L V6, that car is pretty sporty considering it's a 5400lb vehicle compared to the Mustangs Svelt 3650 or 3750 the Mustang will come in at. Not to mention the Mustang will have a 4.0

Ballpark figures are that the V6 Mustang will hit 0 - 60 in the seven second range and probably hit mid-15 second quarter mile times. Very respectable performance for a car of its price and class.
If I were buying (which I am not in the position to do right now, with a new house and family), I'd be leaning towards the V6 for a couple of reasons. First, it offers a lot of bang for buck. Second, I like the cleaner looks of the V6. And third, I'm more interested in overall performance than I am a sheer acceleration. My experience in powerful cars is that, once you've owned it for a while, you get used to the acceleration and it ceases to be awe-inspiring. But, a nicely balanced sporty car remains fun-to-drive for a long time.
To that end, I'm hoping that the overall balance of handling, braking, power and the important things like steering response, braking feel, etc. will be strong features of all Mustangs, including the V6. It would also be nice to have a "Pony" option that included a handling-tuned suspension, more agressive gearing, and a nice-sounding exhaust. With (potentially) less weight on the front end, such a car could be a very nicely balanced "sporty car" that would attract a different buyer (me, for example) than the more muscular GT. Such a model would also could serve to improve the image of the V6 cars, reinforcing the notion that from bottom to top, the Mustang is an affordable performance car.

I just talked with my insurance company and there is a whole 4 dollar a month difference on a gt compared to a v6. There goes that myth about the high insurance is the reason you pick v6's. I have no problems with v6's if your just a consumer but if your a mustang enthusiast you should be in a v8 car to see the full capability of it.
