I guess that depends what you mean by "serious enthusiasts". Drag racers are serious enthusiasts and most are very happy the live axle is still around. On the other hand, auto-crossers and road racers problably aren't too thrilled. The question is which of those two demographics are a higher percentage of Mustang customers?

Most serious car enthousiats will consider a solid axle in a "sports car" in the same context.

(I agree for drag racing the cheapest and the best way to go is with the solid axle.)
In regards to highest demographic percentage, I meant among serious enthusiasts (which is what I thought we were discussing).

So branch, you would take a brand new Mustang GT if it had a 280hp(very expensive to mod) V6, breakaway mirrors, and IRS for $27,900 MSRP, add leather, 18" wheels, nav, and a brake option with hids for say $34,500?
Name ONE car PLEASE that offers a 300hp V8 with IRS for $24,800 MSRP.
I am soooo sick of the whining. There is an IRS mustang coming up, just buy that. I dont know why you drive a live-axle mustang now
There is nothing close to Mustang GT in price/performance/dollar. When Nissan puts a V8, a rear seat, decent quality interior in the 350 and marks it down to $24,900, then I will whine about the GT.
You need to pay to play. Why haven't you put IRS in your 94? It can be done.
Here's a reality check for you, I paid 34k for my 250 hp, 15mpg(premium) Mid-14's RX7 TT in 1993. Where is this 'miracle car' you keep talking about?
Everyone wants something for nothing.

...and the chrysler 300 does have IRS as standard equipment at a $23k base price.
about 18K vs 23K diff about 5K
to get the HEMI, base price 2005 CHRYSLER 300C $33,495.00
about 25K vs 33K diff about 8K
both base models are a lot higher than the V6 and GT models.
wanna pay 5 to 8K higher for IRS? Buy a 300 or 300C
Come on, let's be genuine.............how can anyone compare a 300 to a Mustang???? The 300 has, even at the mid 250hp model, and for about $28K, about $10k worth of equipment more than the GT..............IRS, stability control, EBC, a rear suspension from a $45k Mercedes, etc etc.,just to mention the drive train. More fair, lets see how the FMC 500 and sister Mercury(a silly/stupid looking derivative) competes................again the FMC twins lack style, little grunt (200hp) etc, but lets wait and see....................very doubtful it will be competitive.
It is apparent to anyone just 'looking' at the Mustang that it's a stripper with a great engine, great looking interior with the red leather option..................while the ride, handling, comfort, quality, are all unknowns,so lets wait and see.................I believe in 'miracles', and that's what FMC better come up with!!!

$28k is the BASE price of the 250 hp 300C. And where is your list of equipment that totals $10k over the Mustang??
A fairer comparison would be comparing the GT to the entry-level 300C. Base price of $23,920 (plus destination), 4-wheel independent suspension, and a 4-speed automatic. Oh, yeah, and a 2.7L V6 with, *cough*, 190 hp.
Sedans versus coupes, IRS versus solid axle, dems verus reps... can't we all just get along?

Something tells me the 300 and mustang are not often cross-shopped. Its kinda like when people cant decide between an MR2 and a subaru forrester. DUH. People do not drag race sedans either, 500's main competitor is Avalon. I checked the price list, there will be AWD/CVT sedans with MSRP's WELL under 28k well equipped. CVT makes up for about 50hp. The 250+hp 3.5 should show next year.

The 300C that starts at (checks page once more) $33,495 DOES come standard with the HEMI. Kudos for that information.
However, the one that starts at (checks again for accuracy) $23,920 has a 190 hp 2.7L V6.
No comparison... Especially since it is a SEDAN. I can't believe I've participated in this shamefulness.

If the 500/Montego can AT LEAST be somewhat competitive for the first two years, at which time both will be refreshed and as Kevin metioned be offered with the 3.5 V6, and the Fusion sells better than the Contour, WATCH out when/if Ford builds the 427 (rumored to be 2008).
Time will tell . . .
Ford could, as I use the word "could" loosely, own every segment( Yes, I drink too much Ford Blue Kool-Aid). (Ford is behind Toyota 26 problems per 100 vehicles, 101 vs. 127 respectivley and closing the gap [the launch of the Mustang/500/Freestyle/Montego/Mariner/Escape Hybrid could close the gap further if problems are few and far between], and Toyota MAY be having some problems in quality, but have TONS of cash to fix said "possible" problems. Though it will not matter much to the buying public, but problems nontheless.)

427 with 6.2 hurricane mind you. On a dew-lite chassis. Ford should call Chrysler up and tell them to give them their styling back. I still cant believe the 300 styling ripoff. Also there is a 'unnamed compact suv' to bow sometime in 07-08. Think Bronco.

Since the 300 base model seems to be the comparision. Shouldn't it be compared to the V6 mustang which will be under $20k. I mean at least it is comparable in engine size and power. Though it is still down on the mustang V6. But more expensive for it's IRS and other such frills.

IRS, telescoping antenna, folding mirrors, remote gas cap.
more crap to break, especially a telescoping antenna.
frivolous gadgets really (except an IRS) which would only add cost and complexity and do nothing for performance.

Why are people even comparing the 300C to the Mustang GT?
![Confused18](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/confused18.gif)
Those 2 cars are not anywhere near the same, below are the obvious that they are not competing for the same customer.
Compare:
Chrysler 300C = 4046lbs
'05 Mustang GT = 3450lbs (est)
Chrysler 300C = family car
'05 Mustang GT = sports car
Chrysler 300C = designed for comfort and safetly
'05 Mustang GT = designed to excite you in safety
Chrysler 300C = looks lethargic
'05 Mustang GT = balanced design
Chrysler 300C = 4 doors
'05 Mustang GT = 2 doors
Chrysler 300C = $1000.00 discount (already)
'05 Mustang GT = no discount will be needed.
Chrysler 300C = not selling well
'05 Mustang GT = people are laying down cash before they arrive
Chrysler 300C = No manual transmission offered, 5-speed auto only on V8 300C
'05 Mustang GT = 5-speed manual or 5-speed auto across the board
Chrysler 300C = lots of passenger room and trunk space/storage
'05 Mustang GT = little passenger space and small trunk area
If some of you guys want to continue
