Serious Reservations, doom for the 05?

I don't think the 300C and the mustang are at all comparible.
Now, whether they appeal to a certain portion of the male populus who would like to have a mustang but unfortunately their position in life (with family etc) means that they need 4 doors and more room, then you may get cross shopping.
I can tell you one thing, for those of us that want a sports car/pony car, we won't be buying a 300C anytime soon. It may be nice (I've sat in one), but its so far away from a Mustang you need to be blind to see the similarities.

I gaurantee everyone that all this cost cutting will KILL the Mustang in a few years, just like the TBird.............the car market is very competitive, very global, and good value is being had at price points well below the Mustang with tons more features ie a 300 hp engine does NOT make a car to Joe Public................he/she are not the fervant fans of the Mustang like us on this site. I believe Ford has one of the most valuable franchises in America, and it's about to blow it in about 3 years.......................certanily not a wish, but a fear!!!

The Mustang is gonna kill Ford within three years? LOL What planet are do you live on? The one I'm on is INFESTED with current Mustangs. There are dozens were ever I go. Thousands all over town. I can't get away from them. This isn't a vehicle on its last legs, running on the vapors of a long abandoned tradition. Ask the Ford sales guys here. Is the Mustang dead or is it an amazingly popular car, especially considering how long it's been since a major make-over?
So if the current generation Mustang is still popular and selling in the hundreds of thousands, what's the next generation gonna do? Is it such a step down that it's gonna kill the model? Maybe one of these poll-happy guys can pose the question: Whether you plan to buy a new Mustang or not, do you consider the '05 an improvement over the current model? I'd bet the response would be about 80% believe the '05 is an improvement. Despite the "cost cutting" you predict will destory the 'stang and Ford with it, this is a more powerful car, a more comfortable car, a more stylish car and I bet when we actually get to test drive it most people will find it to be a better driving car - IRS or no. Personally I don't think John Q. even knows what IRS is.
As for the board being full of true believers who bleed blue and are blind to reality, I've been a Toyota driver for fifteen years and have never owned a Ford in my life. But my prediction is the car will be a best seller and will be on all the car mags' top ten lists.
The next gen mustang is gonna kill Ford? You and I must be looking at two different cars.

I went to two auto shows where they were unvailing the new Mustang and at both, you could barely see the car. People were 5 deep all the way around the thing. I know, cause I was one of them.
No idea what this guy's talking about. I believe he's doing this for reaction purposes.

The Chrysler 300 looks like someone took a regular large american car, drew a line representing some Japanese person's garage, minus 8 inches in all directions, and then squished the car to fit.
My friend likes his Pacifica, and I think the Magnum has charm, but the 300 is just plain fugly.
The Mustang is instantly recognizable, Car and Driver's review, (and I don't remember them being especially friendly to domestic cars) was falling-over-itself complimentary.
There are lots of old threads we could resurrect, lets let this troll-inspired sadness die.

I own form new a 94 GT, love it, and after 92k not a single problem...............unheard of with my Japanese and German/BMW 330 cars. Was dead set on getting an 05 GT, until I saw an unattractive scenario unfolding......................................
I saw the 05 concept at the 03 NY International Auto Show, loved in, the Ford delegates needed security for crowd control. Then came the real 'thing' at the same show this past April....................I was the ONLY one looking at it!!!!!! ala GTO public response!!!! Is is only me or is the production car a very dull representation of a 67 some almost 40 years later, diluted significantly from the gorgeous concept?? The ext design lacks inspiration or wow factor for a sports coupe, the interior rather nice, and all the cheap apointments to save a few bucks is very much in evidence ie fixed rear view mirrors, fixed radio antennae, the antiquated rear axle. lackluster/homely front and rear fascia, and more.............the ONLY really competive component is the 300 HP engine, but hardly makes 'a car' .
Importantly, the ONLY test drive by a non-Ford biased person was the one individual on this website that reported the ride/handling was greatly infrerior to the similarly road tested g35 coupe, Z car, GTO, and RX8. I'm suspicious to that in about 2 months the car will have arrived at dealers and not ONE road test by any of the car mags, which are nearlly ALWAYS complimentary to a new car during it's honeymoon, later comparisons gets truly objective. This witholding also makes me dubious of how 'great' this 05 will be. I am certain I'll get a passionate response to the contrary, but have seen this same scenario with marginal cars play out exactly the same visa vie the Thunderbird, soon to be cancelled because of uncompetitive features and performance.
Lastly, I not in the lesat bit impressed with the two pieces of almost insignificant news released by Tang and you guys in a recent interview.............thought he was revealing the Holly Grail to you..................he in particular and the car seems to be 'lacking', big time I fear.

Maybe top speed, but the Stang has it beat in all "race" disciplines. Stock.

OK I'll put in my 2 cents worth. First off I have been a MOPAR man since day 1 and am in my 40's now. I always have enjoyed any true MUSCLE car regardless of flavor and by the way a MUSCLE car is RWD and made in the USA by my definition.
From what I can see the engineers at Ford and Dodge are really having a lot of fun and are tring to appeal to us midlife guys. The guys at GM must think they can just put something out there and the loyalist will buy it just because they have always had a GM.
So this brings me to my current position, I picked up my 05 GT last Saturday and have nothing but the highest praise for it. The cars quality is great, it runs awesome and is a head turner wherever I go and all of this for only $27000 out the door price. There is no doubt that the new stuff from dodge is awesome running but the styling does not appeal to me at all and the price tag is not for those faint of heart.
Now if Dodge brings back the Challenger or something that resembles it better than the 300 or Magnum, puts that Hemi in it and keeps it under $30K I will be there beating the door down just like I did with this Mustang, but I don't think I will hold my breath!!!!

Nope, The GT will take it with no trouble. Just imagine what the 2006.5 cobra will do to it for about the same price.
