Pulled over for "high beams"

well yes it looks cool to have them on.. but its common courtesy not to use them in highly populated streets.. because it causes a distraction to other drivers..... use them on open roads

dustindu4, are the fog lamps adjustable? I had a 2001 Harley F150 and had people flash brights at me when I drove with the fog lamps on. I adjusted them down just a little and never had a problem after that. If anyone gets flashed a lot, maybe they can adjust them down and see if it helps.

It makes me nervous driving at night with my fog lights on, because I also don't have a front plate......and I don't need to be attracting attention to that.

Thats strange when me and my son checked out my lights with Fog lamps on When I clicked the high beams then all four lights go bright ? yes the Fogs do to maybe I had better get some of those German Klige lights I think they were called they'd blind one long enoungh not to see a plate or render them color blind a short while he,he.

Well I've driven it past maybe 20 cops since I got it at night without problems. Now I understand why Ford made it so the fogs turn off when you flip the high beams on.

That's interesting...I've noticed that when I turn my brights on the fog lights turn off.
I had wondered about the fogs being placed that that high point on the car when I saw the final draft of the 05 when it came to street legality. The fogs going off when the high beams are on is standard on cars these days, though you can mess with the wiring to override that (I did that on my Focus).
The kicker on the 05 though is those of us (like a friend of mine) who has stuck Silverstars in the Fogs and the Headlights of his 05 and runs with both on. Talk about bright. I have Silverstars in my 04, but I pulled my fogs off altogether so its a bit different (and I still get flashed with my lows on).
Ultimatley, most laws are written that the Fogs are not to be used under "normal" conditions, whatever that means and really its just a matter of regional enforcement and how bad the cops want to see the new Pony up close.

ya know, i have seen a handfull otr at night with the fogs on and they really dont look like brights to me. there are plent of do-it-yourselfers out there who have no ideas about the concept of 'aiming' your new headlights, i dont think i have EVER seen one of these guys get pulled over. it must be the configuration that is getting these cops attention.
I only use mine at dusk (with the headlights off) or when it's raining out, also with the headlights off. I think it is just inviting trouble to use them with the regular lights on because the average person on the street is going to assume that they're brights. Besides, I got a warning for driving with the fog lights on when I had my 2002 GT...

Not even close in my field of vision. Unless someones alignment is wrong.
A warning for what? Only the fogs and no headlights at or after dusk, that's all they could warn about, because they are not enluminating enough by themselves. Is that what you mean? But it is a lame reason in the city.
i know in nebraska it is illegal to drive with any "auxilary lights" on when your low beams are on...leaving you to only use your fog lights when the brights are on
it is also illegal to drive with your high beams on in inclimate weather
on my previous cars (98,00,02,02) i have been pulled over for the foglights several times for this, never ticketed tho
kinda nice not having to worry about it lol

Fogs and brights are never to be used together and the fogs should default to off when brights are turned on in all newer vehicles.
So you are saying in Nebraska, you can never use your fogs, or only by themself without low beems. Fogs and low beem together never a problem here in Michigan.

Does not make complete sense.

And I don't think there is any benefit from giving a cop a reason to pull you over. If you are going five over and everything else is on the level, chances are that they are going to leave you alone. But if you're going five over AND they THINK you are driving with your brights on, you probably WILL get pulled over. And, if you're lucky enough to talk sense into them about the lights, you'll probably get a speeding ticket.
And don't bet you can talk sense into them. My conversation went like this:
"Do you realise you have your brights on?"
"I don't have my brights on, those are fog lights"
"Well, you can't have them on."
"Why not"
"Because I said so. And if I see them again, you're getting a ticket."
I went to college on a debate scholarship, and I can tell you that you can't win an argument with someone who thinks "because I said so" is a legitimate response.
