I am going to be placing an order soon. I am thinking before the end of the month and I want to tell the dealer I won’t give him a deposited until he gives me a Vin #. Does this sound fair? Or is there a better way to find out when they have actually placed my order and are not just saying they will do it in hopes of locking me in?

Please tell me the best way to find out if the dealer has placed my order. I just don't to be lied to and waste my time so any guidance would be great. Thanks.

I didn't have to put down a deposit at all. Just ask him for your DORA, its the receipt Ford sends the dealership confirming the order was entered in the system.

Just the kind of answer I was looking for! If its entered does that mean they have an allocation or they just entered it? Basically what I am trying to ask is can they place an order and get a DORA but it wont be pulled for a bit? Or does a DORA mean they will pull it soon? Thanks.

It just means it was entered. When Ford pulls the order, then that fills an allocation with that dealership. The DORA only means an order was placed in the system, doesn't mean the order has been pulled by Ford yet. The dealership should get the DORA a few days after placing the order.

Thanks for the info. Is there anyway to find out how many allocation a dealership has or is it just trust at that point? I mean they could in theory give me a DORA but then it still wont be pulled for a while if they dont have any allocations left and who knows how many have been placed ahead of me and when mine will be pulled.

I don't mean this in a bad way.....but judging by what you have already written on this post, I think you would be better off finding one "in stock" than ordering one. You need a great deal of patience to deal with this particluar car as an order-car. Trust me, my patience is wearing thin, and my vehicle has basically been on schedule up to this point. Until I actually GET the vehicle will I be relieved, right now they say Dec.7 delivery and I ordered on Oct. 19....we'll see what happens.

I just don't want to get waste my time with a shady dealership. I have no experience any ford dealership in my area so I have no way of knowing who to trust. I will not settle for anything less then what I want. So unless they have my exact specifications on hand I fully intend to order my car.

I am just doing my research to find out how I can best protect my self and receive my car in the fastest manner.

The dealers do usually keep records of their allocation, used and available. That being said, how do you pick an accountant, doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc..? Talk to people that have do business with a few dealers in you area, ask what they think. Talk to your salesperson, do they seem to understand the order process, can they give you accurate answers that match to the info here? It is a little bit of a crap shot, but do your research, pull the trigger and get in line.

By the way, enjoy the new ride.

Another thing to consider as far as this *fastest route possible*. Most have seen their cars at the 8 week point (not counting the early ordering folks, who waited a LONG time, and some still are waiting). So even if all went right, you get a dealer that actually has unspent allocation, and you order it, you have a good 2 months to cool your heels. I ordered Oct 15, and won't see mine until prolly that point in Dec at the earliest.

I wanted to see if there was a way to back check how many allocations they had. I guess I just have trust issues with dealerships in general. But I will ask what week it wil be pulled based on their allocations. Once its been pulled its 4-8 weeks until delivery? Is that correct?

When it's pulled, they will give you a build week and your VIN, expect about 2 weeks from the time its built to delivery.

Which is more like 7 weeks is the fastest anyone has reported getting one yet, up to 12 weeks plus for the unlucky guys. 4 weeks from order to delivery is NOT realistic

Just to give something of a basis for comparison. I ordered mine 15 Oct, it was pulled and serialized before Oct 22 (22nd at the latest) and my build doesn't *start* until Nov 29.
