New '07 info
BTW: KGSGT350 I have posted a couple of times that I saw that "Shelby" version of the '05 in Mustang Monthly during their piece on CS. Where did you find that picture?

That is a chop that topnotch did about a year and a half ago. It is shopped from the concepts. It was on here for a while, but, I think it got taken down. It was in one of the mustang mags (probably the one you mentioned) at one time. I had it as my wallpaper for a long time before we saw the actual '05.

I'd like to believe this, but I can't let myself because I've read so many public statements by SVT officials saying there is NO relation between SVT and Shelby (they also said the Cobra would have IRS, way back when). These statements can be found in the SVT Enthusiast. The former was made by Tom Scarpello in his column (not sure which issue anymore, sorry).

Hey KGSGT350,
Are there any close ups of those two cars? Just curious. Those are very nice.

I think I got that picture off of this site a while back. I wish I had more but that's the only picture I have, and they do look great!

You really can't say that, because you would then have to say 68 to 70 GT350/500's are not real Shelbys, because they were built in Livonia, Michigan in a Ford facility by Ford employees. Try explaining that one to an MCA concours judge, or to the people spending 50 grand plus for 68 GT500KR's.

1968 -70 Shelby Mustangs were built in Ionia, MI, by A.O. Smith Company NOT by Ford employees in Livonia.
So I guess we could say that they are really "Smith Mustangs".
Partially assembled Mustangs were pulled off the Ford assembly plant in Dearborn and then shipped to the A.O. Smith plant in Ionia for final assembly.
No wonder the concours judges are giving you strange looks.

:bang:
Right state...wrong town.
But my point still holds.
By 1968. Shelby Mustangs were less Shelby and more Ford. So all this grousing about whether or not and SVT/Shelby whatever is still a Shelby is kind of pointless.
Who cares who makes it? The point is, Shelbys are some of the most respected and sought after Mustangs of all time. If the cars say Shelby on them, it is paying respect to the great Shelby Mustangs of the 60s. This is not unlike the Mach 1 and Bullitt cars. No one was complaining that the MAch 1 was too outdated or that it wasn't designed/built by the original designers/builders.
We should welcome the availability of a car paying homage to such great cars. If SVT releases Cobras and Shelby releases Shelbys, we still win.

Well if this holds true I expect everyone will run out and try to find a Shelby Charger, Omni, Daytona and Durango, because those were Shelby's too, NOT!
Please don't get me wrong, I respect Shelby for his achievements in the 60's,but I feel he would put his name on any thing for a buck. I ask you this, if Shelby has so much love for the Mustang, where was he in the the 80's and 90's?
This is what I am trying to say. Who cares about C Shelby. It is the car that is being honored, not the man. Ford just needs his permission to put his name on it. He'll profit from it. He deserves to (it is his name). If Carroll is just money hungry, that doesn't make the Shelby Mustangs of the 60's any less special.

What is with all the hating on Shelby? What does it matter what the car is called? I mean, are some of you really not going to buy the highest option Mustang b/c it is not an SVT Cobra (assuming that is the case)? That is just ridiculous. You're buying a car, not the SVT/Cobra/Shelby/whatever it happens to be name.

Ford is putting the name on it that will make them the most money. They need to make money to stay in business to keep making Mustangs for us. There are a lot of people out there that will probably never own a '60s Shelby. A Ford sponsored, reasonably priced Shelby will sell well, very well.
As I said above, it is the Shelby Cars that are being honored, not the man. If you buy a 2007 SVT Shelby (if they exist) you are buying the hottest Mustang of the 21st century just like you were buying the hottest mustang of 1965-70 (yeah, I know, there will be BOSS, Mach, Cobra Jet supporters arguing this).
I suppose if these Shelby haters hate him enough to keep them from buying a car with his name on it, they can go to the aftermarket and buy Steeda, Roush, Saleen, Kenny Brown, Sean Hyland, etc. OF course, those guys don't like to make money, they just love to sell cars.

I don't hate Shelby, like I said above I respect him for the achievements in the 60's and I would own a classic Shelby, if the right one came around. I've owned two restored big block Mach 1s, so its not that I'm one of these guys that don't know or care about the history of the Mustang.
If thay end up making this new Shelby its not going to bother me as long as the SVT Cobra is still built. Because at the end of the day the SVT Cobra is still going to be the baddest factory Mustang for your dollar. The Shelby is going to be over priced for what your going to be getting, because of the name. Then on top of all that buyers are going to have to deal with dealer markups, and beleive me their going to be markups. In the end for what a buyer is going end up paying for a Shelby over a SVT Cobra and what probably will be a minimal perfomance increase for your dollar over the SVT Cobra just isn't going to add up.
It wouldn't surprise me if the Shelby was just a SVT Cobra in differant clothes and shoes with a little more boost from the twin screw supercharger.

I wasn't necessarily implying you were a Shelby hater. There are a lot of them on this board. this subject has been beaten to death before. I was generalizing the hate for Tim.
I think the price depends on who makes the car. If it is a Shelby "tuner" car, "tuned" at Shelby's facility and SVT still makes the Cobra, the Shelby will be expensive and have huge markups while the Cobra will be normally priced.
If SVT makes it and slaps Shelby's name on it, I don't think Ford would jack the price up too much. They would lose too many buyers. The dealers will market adjust them at first, just like they did with the terminator and the Mach 1. If you either find a dealer that won't mark them up (I did) or wait 'til they come down, you should be able to buy them at normal prices. I don't think a Shelby by SVT would exceed $40K. I think a GT500 made by Shelby would easily be 55-60k.

I agree with you. As I have said from the beginning the only new Mustang Ford is getting me into is a Shelby because I don't want to pay 100K for a 67-68 car.
Going off topic: I'd put my name on any car to make money as well. Sure beata my day job!
i think there'll be both an SVT and a Shelby. The SVT in the same range as before, maybe like 440hp, $40K, and then the shelby with 550hp for like $60K. That's what motor trend was saying, full 550hp from the ford GT engine. And i remember months ago, someone from ford saying there were something like 9 variants of the mustang planned, going all the way up to a $60K "R" type car. I think the Shelby will be crazy cause Shelby said he's having fun with the cars he's been making with ford, like the cobra roadster and the GR-1, but the one he's most excited about is the next one. So that's pretty obviously the mustang he's talking about, and if he's more excited about that than the 600hp GR-1, i'd say there's a good chance his stang will have something like 550hp.
And then maybe in between the SVT and the GT there'd be at least one SE or another shelby, GT350 or something, but i think they'd make just one shelby and make it the topdog mustang.
So that's my $2.50 (canadian equivalent of US$0.02)

i think there'll be both an SVT and a Shelby.

I'll second that, there will likely be a Shelby slotted above the Cobra which suits me fine. I'll take the Cobra and enjoy!!
