I can't believe this thread is nearly 20 posts long, and know IRS/Live axel debate. Come on, duke it out

This didnt come from my source...only speculation, but I would bet that the GT 350 is going to be live axle and the 500 is going to be independent assuming the rest of my info turns out to be correct.

once again, supports the Mach and Cobra replacement theory.

You are only speculating this? But the rest is from an "inside source" right?

I thought the same thing, but, didn't want to bring it up. I'm going to buy one either way (as long as the 500 hp version is less than 50K).

I like the sound of this.

Personally, I would like to see the badging simply as SVT350 and SVT500.

The naming convention is the least important part to me though. I just want to know what comes in the box.

IRS Live Axel
Yeah, a lively axle in a $40K Cobra/GT500 would be a kick in the nuts!

Leave it to a good IRS to slam a couple sets of challenging backroad switchbacks while some live axle Stang daintily tiptoes around said switchbacks lest its rear suspension go into convulsions over any bumps.

I got some news today that the cars we'll be seeing on the 23rd of March will in fact be a GT 350 and GT 500 Shelby by SVT. Both cars numbers will reflect HP levels on the cars. The 500 will be utilizing the twin screw Whipple, while the 350 will be naturally aspirated. The cars wont be exclusive SVT vehicles, but more shared by Shelby and SVT with badging to reflect the relationship...something like "Shelby by SVT". We'll see soon!!

Thats interesting when I told my Guy at SVT this info and that I was going to cancel my trip to NY because I wasn't making the trip to see some Shelby mustang, he said not to. That what I was originally making the trip for would still be there and was planned to be in dealerships summer of 06' so that I could put a fourth Cobra in my garage.

Now I'm not saying this Shelby rumour isn't true, but still keep a look out for the 07' Cobra.

How about I just leave my room, walk down the hall, knock on your door, and clue you in on the info because I am right there with you. The hype is killing me, but it sure seems to be working for Ford on the normal Mustang.

I hope we see the SVT Cobra in NYC and not a Shelby or SVT/Shelby badged Mustang. Mustang performance is strong and interest is at a fever pitch because of enthusiasts like all of you on this board, coupled with strong support from the factory and the aftermarket, not because of old Shel. What is baffling is that GM and Chrysler have basically replicated the SVT DNA in their own performance division while Ford has regressed and sold out to Shelby. Ford should be leveraging their position not retrenching. Carroll needs to stick to making chili and remanufactured 427 Cobra's and leave the Mustangs to true enthusiasts who have supported Ford and the Mustang all along.

I would love a Shelby badged SVT car. I could care less about Cobra. I represent the "new" Ford buyer. To me, owning a Shelby would be a dream come true. I could care less about the SVT nameplate.

I am only 30 but grew up loving the 60s Mustangs. The king of these to me was the 67 Shelby. If I could get a modernized version of that I would be thrilled. I plan on buying the next SVT Mustang and it would be a bonus if it had Shelby badging. That would give it more of a general appeal outside of the diehard Ford crowd.

Hey KGSGT350,
Are there any close ups of those two cars? Just curious. Those are very nice.

Well thats because you've probably never owned an SVT product. If you did your veiw may be differant. If this rumored Shelby does come to light and its not built at Shelby's facility like Saleen and Roush than it not a real Shelby Mustang. It would be more like a Shelby edition Mustang and to me that holds no weight.
It would kind of be like the GTO. It performs well, makes good power but really its not a GTO, rather just a car with GTO badges on it.

You really can't say that, because you would then have to say 68 to 70 GT350/500's are not real Shelbys, because they were built in Livonia, Michigan in a Ford facility by Ford employees. Try explaining that one to an MCA concours judge, or to the people spending 50 grand plus for 68 GT500KR's.

That's not to say there isn't underlying controversy within the vintage Shelby community. Owners of 65 to 67 Shelby's consider their cars to be "true" Shelbys because they were built in Shelby's LA facility by Shelby employees. But owners of 68 to 70 Shelbys consider their to be just as true a Shelby as the early cars.

IMO, if Shelby has a major say in the design and performance in the car, then it's Shelby. I also believe that 68-70 Shelbys are true Shelbys as well.

I'm in the same boat and I agree with his post entirely. I have owned SVT products in the past, and I really liked them, but the draw of a Shelby nameplate is significant. I don't really care either way. I want the new SVT Mustang no matter if the call it SVT, Shelby,Cobra, or the new Barbie Ferrari.

BTW: KGSGT350 I have posted a couple of times that I saw that "Shelby" version of the '05 in Mustang Monthly during their piece on CS. Where did you find that picture?

I very seriously doubt it. MT has reported that Shelby is building a Mustang. That is all I am taking from that article. Hau Thai-Tang has said that SVT is coming out w/ a car.

I could see this: 2 cars from Shelby, the Shelby Mustang GT 350 and GT 500. And from Ford, the SVT Cobra Mustang and possibly a SE model between the GT and SVT.

I just think that from what history has shown us, it seems to be the most logical explanation. People want options, then by God, give them options. What more options could you have than this kind of line up out of a Mustang? v6, GT, Mach1, Boss, bullitt, SVT, Roush, Saleen, Steeda, Shelby, 3-D Carbon, CDC, on and on and on. What other car can be said the same for? The more options or model line-ups that are offered to the public to make each customer have their own personal car, the better off Ford would be. I think that IF this is how it all goes down, then Ford and all the other companies and manufacturers who uses the Mustang for their inspiration, have hit themselves one huge home run.

My $.02.
