I too am going to try something. My key looks like I had it for years now.

05silverGT let's see the pic. I'll bet red looks pretty cool.

I'm going to pick some up tomorrow and do it too. (black, though)

To those that have done it, can you still see the Ford logo?

Yes albeit barely. The coating does a pretty good job filling in the grooves in the key cap. I'm finding, however, that you need to re-do the coating every few months. I'm starting to see the coating deteriorate from one of my coated keys.

OK. Went out and bought the stuff. I've dipped my "main" key twice already. It's full of tiny bubbles!!! (no Don Ho jokes, please)
Any advice? It comes off pretty easy so I plan on doing it again.

So far, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't.

I just treated my key with Plasti Dip ( 2 coats ), and it looks great. My key was looking like it was 20 years old and now it looks like new. I have to let it set for 30 hours so I'll see how it holds up. There is both spray and dip and I bought the dip at $6.97 a can. so far, so good.

I assume that you're mixing it thoroughly before you dip your keys into it. Are you spending 20 seconds mixing it or 2 minutes? Maybe you're just doing such a thorough job mixing the plasti-dip that you're injecting air into the goo?

I've been through three containers of plasti-dip and have dipped more than a dozen different keys and tools without bubbles. All I do is follow the instructions on the side of the container.

Maybe that's what it is.
Here are the results of the 3rd try.
I have a few more ideas to try to do it better.
Maybe I should just send you my keys.

Even with the few imperfections on the key, it still looks like you did a pretty good job on it. This stuff seems rather sensitive to heat and humidity so that might be whats affecting it.

One "bright" side: My boss bought a new Freestar and his key is doing the exact same thing as my keys. At least Ford went "cheap" all across the board!!! Such a nice car getting nipped at by bean counters:

1) crappy keys
2) seperate remote (aka: not Fuzion!)
3) no passenger grab bar (aka: "Oh S#@$" bar!)
4) seat back does not return to set position when you put it back up...
5) prop rod, not struts
6) no internal trunk release
7) (ok, not really a bean counter issue...) GT has fog lights instead of DRIVING lights!

At least they are all SMALL issues!

That's what I'm thinking also.
I have the stuff inside now hoping the cooler temp and lower humidity will do better. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm still not used to the seats. In my Chevy, the seat could be freely moved forward so if I wanted to throw some stuff in the back seat I could do so without changing my seat adjustment. Now everytime I put something in the back, I don't quite get the seatback into the same spot.

The "internal trunk release" is on your keychain.

That seat back thing REALLY bugs me. I'm not sure why. I'll bet you'll see some sort of aftermarket fix for it eventually.
