HID Conversion Kits

Has anyone tried one of these HID conversion kits, like the ones from AmericanMuscle.com or Stangmods? I'd really like to have HID's, but Saleens are too rich for my blood at $800-$900. I like the sound of the kit from Stangmods with the High & Low beams, 6000K temp bulbs. I have read some negative things about the OE reflectors not being good with HID bulbs. Just looking for somebody who has tried one of them. Thanks,

I was going to go with the XenonDepot H13 kit for my '07. I installed an H11 kit on my wife's GX470 with projectors and they look factory. Great company to deal with and great products. The bulbs and ballasts are both Philips and the bulbs are the correct focal length. Everything is plug and play with no splicing. The factory plugs only power the relays, so no worry of frying the oem wires.

That said, my only concern is that the '07's no longer have the bulb shield and I'm afraid the HID light is going to be coming out all over the place and blind oncoming traffic. I'm sure it's better with the '05-'06's with the bulb shield.

In the end, I plan on waiting to see what the '08 factory OEM HID's look light and maybe retrofit mine instead.

That's probably the better plan, as I would assume the '08 assembly will be a pretty straightforward retrofit.

Of course, then you're faced with replacing the stock fogs as well, unless you don't mind having the brilliant white contrasting against dim, tobacco-stain yellow.

HID's

To get rid of that "tobacco yellow look", try Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. Silverstars are the next best thing to HID's. They're very white, just a tiny bluish tinge, and I mean barely (not ricey). I have them in my headlights and fogs. They look very good.

Thank you. Already know all about SilverStars (see my sig).

Have a look at this thread also, if you REALLY want to get into it over SilverStars.

Here ya go.....no bulb shield and the reflector itself is different. There's also a faceted edge to the reflector that gives it a halo effect.

A slightly yellowish foglamp color is actually more desirable since it works better in foggy conditions or where there is rain and snow. Dan Stern doesn't recommend using the whitish colored HIDs for foglamps.

I'm interested in the 2008 HID retrofit kit though.

Agreed, but amber is actually the best color for fogs.

That said, the Stang's lights aren't technically fogs, anyway, they're driving lights, so white is fine.

Selective yellow foglamps are used as foglamps.
The Stang's foglamps are actually foglamps designed to look like driving lamps. The H10/9145 bulbs are designed to function as foglamps.
PIAA has SEries 40 driving lights that are specific to the S197 GT though (glass lens, etc...)
