Clutch/tranny issue?

I'll describe this the best I can and try to get a video with sound. When I put my foot half way down or more, the rpms fly up immediately by 1k-1500, almost like its in neutral. Holds there until i back off a little or the transmission catches up I guess. I have a V6 5spd. Is this maybe the clutch not biting under a harder load? Seems to only do it when at 2K-4K rpms

Sounds like a slipping clutch. 2-4K RPM is getting into the torque curve putting extra stress on it. How many miles do you have on the clutch? May just need an adjustment.

Sounds like the clutch is wore out, you'll need a clutch job .... and maybe even a flywheel as you are creating a lot of heat every time you do those flare ups.

No adjustment, linkage is hydraulic 2005 up and self adjusts.

That's kinda what I was worried about. I drove pretty cautiously last week as to keep flare ups to a minimum. Ironically I have not had any issues with it since Wednesday of last week. It was pretty cold here in Houston for about 2 weeks (40s-50s). Then at the end of the week it got back up into the 70s and 80s. Could this have anything to do with it?

I'm the second owner of the car and it has about 86K miles. I'd have to scroll through my info from it and see if/when the original was replaced. Off the top of my head I'm pretty sure its the original. Not sure what the normal clutch life is for this car.

Clutch life all depends on the driver and whether its tracked/driven hard/shifted incorrectly or not. My 04 v6 I got 150,000 miles before I replaced my clutch and that's only because the throwout bearing went out and I was already in there. The friction material still looked pretty decent on the old one

Ok, well its my DD so I am not very hard on it. It's never been tracked, I don't launch it. I don't use the clutch to hold me on hills, ect. Ill miss a gear every now and again but that's about it. What's throwing me the most is the problem stopped. I haven't had any issues with it grabbing since Friday.

What year is it? 05 & up switched to hydraulic which I am not a fan of. Maybe it's in your clutch hydraulic system

Hello 05PRMTX,

You should bring it into your dealer and have it checked out. Your service manager is in the best position to let you know if there is work needed, and any coverages, recalls, or assistance available.

Also, remember repairs done at a Ford Dealer come with a 24 months/unlimited miles warranty. Let me know the outcome.
