My dealer called me today and said his Ford rep came in and all orders with IUP are on delay... So now that people are getting their cars left and right, it looks like I will be on delay. Does anyone have the latest news on this problem? What type of timeframe to get cars delivered now? "

What's the story on this latest "...all orders with IUP are on delay..." ?

Is this a Temp Delay of short duration? Or expected to be longer / indefinite?

Someone on the inside please advise. Thanks.

Karpor? Kevinb? Factory guys??? Help !! :bang:

You're probably right; but does anyone have a good idea as to how long a delay is anticipated???

I'm hoping that all the "Delays" are cleared up before I order mine in April!

THe subject has been around for a while.

IUP was restricted from the V6 to build more GT orders with it. The word is Delphi cannot keep up with the demand; specifically the MyColor part of IUP is the issue. It looks like they're having trouble keeping up, even with IUP restricted to GT's only.

I recall reading that Delphi was supposed to be getting some additional automated board soldering units, or something similar, that would help break the logjam. Looks like, if that is in fact the case, that it hasn't happened yet.

Nothing official here from me, just factoids from the forums. 2MustangJohn or someone else at AAI would probably be the best source on this one.

Thanks, Jon.

Yeah, the IUP shortage and hold on V-6s has been around a while, but this seemed new for an IUP delay on ALL cars, including the GTs.

I also recall reading that the GTs ordered with IUP were being filled in "batches", which is sort of a delay in itself.

But this sounded like something worse still; that's what I was trying to confirm or refute.

Is this something new / worse, or the same old delays? Is this an indefinite type delay ? Or is it just a reference to the GT IUP orders being filled in batches?

If you look at the weekly commodities updates I've been posting, they show the percentage of vehicles that can be built with each particular commodity. If only 17% can have IUP and 75% of the orders have them, thats what causes the delay.

OK, got it. That's what I was referring to above as orders being filled in "batches", which causes delays as you explained.

The inference in the original post that I quoted at the top was that ALL IUP orders were delayed, seeming to imply that NONE were being filled.

At least they are doing some; it will take time but "eventually" the orders will get filled.

Thanks for clarifying.

One more thing: Is it a "first in, first out" system of filling the delayed orders? Using your example, will the (75% - 17% = ) 58% of this week's orders that were delayed, be filled before next and subsequent weeks' orders are filled, until they catch up ?

Question/Assumption: Understand regarding the IUP situation. Would it be correct to "assume" that with the plant shutdown, Delphi would continue to manufacture the unit or will they be on shutdown also? If they continue to work, then after the plant startup, I suppose they may be able to handle a large batch of GT's with the IUP and some of this backlog might be relieved. Just a thought.

Have not heard much/anything regarding the spoiler issue. Anyone know?

The orgianly speculation was that 50% of people buying this car would also get IUP, if they are only making 17% with the IUP, this in itself should be slowly helping delphi with the backlodge. that means that 33% of the cars should have the IUP and are not being built. So IF delphi works for more of the shutdown than Ford does, maybe we will be seeing a return of the IUP to the V6s soon!!!

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Ford severs ties with Delphi for next year. Maybe all of our My Colors will be a rarity in years to come????

I don't think they will sever ties with Delphi. They have a HUGE hit on their hands and by their own miscalculation underestimated demand, hence the backlog.

I think that more people are ordering IUP then Ford expected, so it's not Delphi's fault, Ford is asking for more than they originally wanted.

Yeah, Ford's bean counters messed up the estimate of how many people would want the IUP. Had they made MyColor a totally seperate option we probably wouldn't have as bad of an issue.

But the delays are of no fault by Delphi.

Ford wouldn't allow My Color to die, even if they do sever ties with Delphi, I'm sure they'd buyout the patent on the My Color option. It's a "gimmick" sure, but it's also something that Ford has that no one else does. I wouldn't be surprised to see more cars with the optional My Color in the next few years.

the IUP has made MANY if not most of the orders go on TEMP DELAY. Not sure if the delay you are talking about is something new or not, but mine was on temp delay for about 2 weeks I think. Ordered 8/16, delivered 11/16
