Hmmm....just to throw in my 2 cents....

With a live axle setup, the Shelby Cobra would be an ideal drag car, which still leaves a space open for a road race car sporting IRS...something to take on the M3

After promising IRS on an SVT version Mustang, I think we will see something with an SVT sans Shelby logo on it.

And along side that same article in MT, HTT hints at a possible SVT Fusion...(sure, based of the MazdaSpeed 6 but still an SVT project to get some serious HP numbers)

A lot of you have said "who cares if it is called a Cobra or SVT". Does it bother anyone that Ford's performance arm being SVT could no longer exist? I know, I know, we truly don't know yet nad why worry about something this trivial ....just trying to start conversation on a good topic.

Actually we do know...

ATTENTION EVERYONE:

Again, it has been confirmed for months now that SVT is not going anywhere and is working on the cobra right now!!!

And you believe everything you read on the internet? In the real business world, decisions change by the minute. Just because someone says we aren't going anywhere doesn't mean that it won't change.
I will be the first to eat my hat and words if that after the smoke clears on this one that Ford will still have a "niche" performance arm of the business. I am not talking about Ford cranking out Mustangs off the assembly line ... I am talking a group like SVT that was ALWAYS tinkering in the background, seperate from the mainstream Ford process trying to squeeze performance out of their target vehicles.

OK, I'm coming into this thread a little late. Maybe I deserve the 'Welcome to Last Week', but has anyone said that THIS is a possibility? I've seen someone talk about an open top roadster, is this what you mean?

Click on THIS, it's a link.

No we are talking about a Shelby Mustang, thats the Cobra that didn't take to well and now they are doing a coupe version called the GR-1 to be released as a '07 model. I think when they were talking about open roadster, they were just trying to clarify the difference. A Shelby Cobra is a roadster, a Shelby GT500 is based on the Mustang, has a cobra emblem and says Shelby Cobra on the rear end but is not named a Cobra, it can be confusing.

Obviously your sarcasm meter doesn't work, I think he said that SVT is being shut down, but is still working on cars, not exactly possible.
