Why is it we all look for the worst in everything? Even if the new Shelby Mustang Cobra takes the place of the SVT Cobra. Who do we really believe is creating it. Certainly not Shelby! Look at what we know about the GR 1 and the Shelby Cobra concepts. They both are created and engineered by ford. Shelby is slapping his name on it. He may be their to help out with small details but Ford is still dreaming up these cars. Both cars the GR 1 and the Shelby Cobra are out fitted with a structure created by SVT. Only SVT has the capability to produce enough Shelby Mustang Cobra's to fill customer orders. As far as cost goes it seems it is inevitable that we will see a spike. I do not believe it will be as tall as $70,000 however. The Mustang Cobra is the ultimate Muscle car that can run with the most exotic sport cars. The entire point of this vehicle is to produce a car that is an affordable terror on wheels. SVT will be around for a long time. They may not slap their name on all the cars but they are still creating them. Don't count Ford out yet I think we are just starting down a road that will be very interesting in the next few years. Muscle is back in and selling!

I think SVT will be around. The GT Project drained SVT, but just think of all of the things that SVT engineered during the GT project. I don't have a source to back this up, but I'm sure that at least some of the technology will trickle down into the SVT Mustang, what ever its called, and some more products when they get caught up. This is just a speed bump. With the Chevy SS's and Dodge SRT's, Ford would be foolish to get rid of or even lessen what SVT does.

I agree with you on that, Baldocchi! It seems muscle cars are on the rise once again. Perhaps a second Golden Era! After the "emasculating 80s", it's very exciting to see the the cars out there having the numbers to back up their looks. I can't wait to see what the scene will look like in the next three to six years! :worship:

This thread is hilarious! You guys would make Oliver Stone proud!

Is it remotely possible that Ford has been intentionally ambiguous on Cobra branding b/c they haven't finalized the naming rights with Carroll Shelby yet? Don't you think they would have announced it already if they had a signed deal?

Is it possible that the reason there are no SVT products is because the SVT team was tied up working on the GT project?

Is it possible that the GT quality problems had something to do with the management shuffle?

How about making cars for the average person who goes into a Ford showroom instead of Jay Leno?

Who cares what they call the new Cobra if it has 500 HP and is affordable!

Is it possible that the big announcement at NYIAS is the Shelby deal?

A lot of you have said "who cares if it is called a Cobra or SVT". Does it bother anyone that Ford's performance arm being SVT could no longer exist? I know, I know, we truly don't know yet nad why worry about something this trivial ....just trying to start conversation on a good topic.

Remember, if it wasn't for SVT over the past 10 years, a lot of what we know at Ford performance would not exist ....

Will we get the same quantity and quality performance vehicles without an organization like SVT ? I do not think so .... You need gear heads running that type of show .....

From a production standpoint, what makes the 5.4 GT motor so expensive? If the 03-04 Cobra motors cost aprox $12,000 and has a fully forged shortblock, where is the additional expence coming from on the GT engine? From what I remember, the exoctic GT engine features are as follows:

Screw type supercharger
Different cam specs
Eight extra injectors
Different head castings
Different 5.4L block casting with dry sump oiling
Different intake casting

And even with all these different castings, they still fit within the modular format, nothing exocitic about these interchangable parts.

Can anybody tell me where the additional expense comes from?

I guess I can see the GT motor in the 07 Cobra, without it being a huge cost difference to Ford from the 03-04 Cobra engine. Say it takes an additional $5000 for Ford to put the GT engine in the Cobra, and subtract $1000 for using a solid axle rear end, then the base price for the 07 Cobra would be somewhere near $40,000. Just a guess.
I would imagine it is because they don't make very many of them. Simple economics actually, the more of something you produce reduces the overall cost of the item.
[/b][/quote]

why can't they just put them in all of the GT's? then they could make a lot of them.
would it be insurance reasons or something, would ford just not want to have high horsepower cars?

I can't imagine many people that already went to the GT from the v6 wouldn't want a bigger engine for the same cost.

Anyway, nowhere in this book is a Shelby of any era called a "Shelby Mustang". This car does not exist (unless they build one titled as such in 2007). For instance, my car is called a 1967 Shelby GT (Grand Touring) 500. Same goes for the GT 350. All Shelby GTs were built by hand in California at Shelby Co.

That's actually a good statement. Originally from every single one of the Shelby cars, NO WHERE on the entire car did it say or have a Mustang logo or script. Every thing that corresponded to the Mustang on Shelby's cars were removed. These cars were never titled as Shelby Mustangs, it was the general public that gave it this nickname so that people wouldn't get mixed up with the Shelby Cobra cars and it just refers back that it is Shelby's version of the Mustang. So when Shelby's version of the '05 comes I would not be surprised at all if it doesn't have the name Mustang on it, and it is just called Shelby Cobra or GT___.

i like where this is going.

i hope the lineup will be somehting like this

4.0L V6
4.6L GT
5.4L MAch/boss etc.
S/C 4.6L GT350
S/C 5.4? GT500

or better yet, lets go back to the 60s when any model style can be ordered with any engine. like haveing a 5.4L in the GT. make the GT just a handling package again thats what it was originally right) instead of a trim level. and while im at it, FORD BRING BACK THE NOTCH!!!

yeah here i go again. this post probably stopped making sense a while a go

Why do you think SVT won't exist if the car is named with "Shelby" in it? Unless Shelby American will take Mustangs from Ford's factory, modify them, and then sell them directly, it seems to me, as someone else mentioned, this is all about how the decision is being made to manage the marketing and branding. While Ford SVT engineering resources worked on the Ford GT, they chose to NOT call that car the Ford SVT GT.

If memory serves, the enhancements that comprised the previous SVT-branded vehicles were developed by a small, 30 person or so engineering staff. The remainder of the SVT organization was all about marketing. Part of that marketing was use the SVT label on the Mustang Cobra, the F-150 Lightning, the Focus, and the Contour.

My guess is we will see at leat 2 vehicles in the next 24 months with SVT in the name - a Shelby Mustang Cobra and Fusion. And SVT engineering staff will be the ones making enhancements that continue the tradition of the last 12 years. The SVT marketing staff will position the "top dog" Mustang as one created in partnership with Shelby.

As also posted earlier, perhaps we will know a lot more by this April.

PS - When I went on a tour of the Shelby American factory last November during SEMA, our tour guide said they were going to make a proposal to Ford on what a Shelby Mustang could be. There still was work to do to finalize things.

Actually we do know...

ATTENTION EVERYONE:

Again, it has been confirmed for months now that SVT is not going anywhere and is working on the cobra right now!!!

Has anyone done a photochop to see what a notchback would look like on the 05 Mustang? Would this make for a good LX V8 option?
