passenger airbag
passenger airbag
id like to put an xbox where my passenger airbag is. how hard would something like that be to do? what im asking is how do you disable the airbag so you can take it out of the car. or should i have that done?
First of all, it's illegal (I believe) to disable an airbag, so you'll have to find someone to do inspections that OKs it.
To disable the SRS system unhook the battery terminal and wait 2 minutes. Once this is done, I'm not sure exactly how you would go about taking out the assembly. Your guess is as good as mine.
don't know where you would find someone to remove it. Any chain store is most likely going to turn you away, so you'll probably have to find a local independent guy to do it for you.

It is illegal to disable unless you have a medical condition with a court order saying so. "Airbag deployment would cause instant death, i.e that little old lady who sits under the steering wheel".
This info is thanks to my super wife who is an Emergency department nurse and in the know.
If you are serious about putting an XBOX in the car I would remove the disc tray from the XBOX and place it in the glove box, splicing wires and placing the 'brains' in the trunk.
Failing that just run a controller from the rear and leave everything in the back (dont go wireless!!).
Hope this helps.

Alot of hardcore racers acctually remove the airbags and put in what is called a Mexican Airbag. Its basically the outer dash shell that gets put into cars going to mexico that do not require SRS.
Before disabling the airbag, defintely have to unhook the battery, but also please get a haynes manual that gives you step by step on how to do it properly. The reason I say this is i've seen many airbags go off even after the battery has been unhooked for hours. Not fun when you are in there trying to get a patient out of the car.

thanks for all the input. my mom works in an emergency room also, she just got her paramedic liscense. anyway, thats what i thought, that even after disconnecting the battery that it still could deploy. so im not even gonna mess with it. i also got some smoked headlight covers. and my friend and i are disagreeing about how legal they are. i said that you have to take them off at night..but i really have no idea. thats just what i thought. so if anyone knows it would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
if they are the black GTS covers, than yeah, they're illegal in most places, but a lot of cops don't make a big deal about it. It's a little more risky with them on the headlights as opposed to taillights.
i'd just get smoked 01+ headlights. They look clean IMO
