So, my 2013 mustang gt has 1,300 miles on it. I went to the dealership for my "first free" oil change that ford gives you. I drop off the car in the quick lane.

My service guy comes out and says how many miles? I said 1,300. He said that's too soon and I said I bought this car and I like to do it at 1,000 miles. He said ok than. The mechanic drives the car in and than comes into the quick lane station and tells the guy at the desk this car is not ready for an oil change. He gets back in my car and brings my car back to the front. The guy at the desk and the service manager tell me we won't do it, its not ready yet ford recommends you follow the intervals they tell you, and they tell me all this stuff about how they do a special coating and its not like the old days.

I understand its not like the old days and metal shavings don't really fall into the oil, however, I just like to do it at 1,000 miles. Well they refused me and i drove home. Not very happy with the service. Anyone else run into this problem?

you are not happy they are helping you and the motor of the your mustang by doing what a engineer has ruled? why? They really are doing it for youe own good. They gain nothing by not doign the oil change.

Well, I know and have heard of plenty of people who do the oil change at 1,000 miles on these cars. Many of us like to do it at 1,000 miles. And its my car I bought it if I want to do it at 1,000 miles they should do it. I have a free first oil change from ford and if I wanna do it at 1,000 or 50,000 miles it should be my prerogative and they should grant that request.

1300 miles is too soon I think. I did mine at 2200 miles - this forum got to me - which i also believe is way to early.

However I wonder if they would have reacted the same if you were paying.

Actually, no .... You have a warrenty, if you want it intact, then the first change is per there book.

I am always fascinated that the average car guy knows more than a group of engineers and testers. They do this for a living, you do not....pretty simple.

Instead of being happy they are protecting you , you are not happy.

Btw I have 6,000 Kms on my 2013, and my service guy said wait until 7,000kms, but bring it in before 8,000kms.

Actually no, oil change is not covered under warranty you have to pay for it. The first one is just free from ford because i bought a 40k car from them. So again, it is my car I own it and they should NOT be able to tell me what to do with MY CAR especially when oil change is not a warranty issue. Again, I know plenty of guys and people on the forums who prefer to do an oil change at 1,000 miles. My dad had an M6 about a year ago and they REQUIRED an oil change at 1,000 miles. Just to prove your wrong, I called the sales manager who sold my my car and he said the way they handles it was wrong and to come in when I want and they will do the oil change since its my wishing to do so.

its simple.. they have rules they have to go by when it comes to these things. You can change it yourself if you really want to do it. But I think the whole "its my car" thing is stupid to bring up because its the dealer whos on the hook for doing the work. I got mine done at 2400 miles.

The dealer is not on the hook.. you are PAYING for the oil change its not under warranty so they are doing a service you are paying for. So therefore it is not their responsibility if anything goes wrong, which it won't. And yea you did yours at 2,400 I brought mine in at 1,300 so you arguing over it is stupid because if you think i am silly for bringing it in at 1,300 that your just as silly for doing ti at 2,400 cause according to everyone that is still wayyyy early you shouldn't have brought it in till 5,000-8000 according to my dealer.

but in the warranty you have to do the oil changes and other wear and tear items. The frist one if free ebcause you bought a car.. My fiesta came with three free oil changes so get off that high horse. They are NOT telling you what do with with your car... they are telling you what they are NOT goign to do with your car. You are simply acting like a child. The m6 has different rules because its a different motor and maker and a million other things. The sales guys job is to make you happy.. hes not a engineer nor does he know anything about taking care of the car. He is simply dealing with someone crying about a oil change.

Because the issue is not whether or not I am paying for it. I am pretty sure they would of refused either which ways. It is my free oil change so when they do it should not matter.

my car took three months to get to 2400 miles.. remember that its time and miles driven not just miles..

Your missing the point....the car is under warrenty for years....if they say that the change is at 5,000 than that when you change it.

If BMW says change it at 1,000 that's BMW .... Feel free to change it at the ford dealer early....if you car eventually starts to burn in the year to come, good luck with ford helping....they will gladly say, you changed the oil to early....sorry we won't cover you.

My dealer did my first oil change for 'free' at 500 miles. I do my own oil changes with Motorcraft 'full synthetic' every 2,200-2,800 miles, which takes me 6-8 months time

Well, it goes to show that they should not tell you when you can or can't get an oil change with your car that you paid for. And I was not crying I simply told him I WANT my oil change done at the 1,300 mile mark and they refused. And he simply said he will make it right. So obviously they can do it at the time I want it to be done or else I would not be going back. I just think they are a bunch of fools for refusing it especially when other dealers don't. And especially since many other people like to do it at 1,000 miles i made this post to see if anyone else ran into this problem not to argue with you about when you think I should or should not do my oil change. Mr.... I got mine done at 2,300.
