Hooray for Hollywood and This Movie Mustangs Infographic
British Ford dealer shares our love of movie Mustangs.
Foray Motor Group, a U.K. dealership network, produced the fantastic infographic below. It gloriously displays the Ford Mustang’s big screen history. The Mustang has appeared on screen dozens, if not hundreds, of times.
This infographic focuses on five times the Mustang has been featured prominently in a movie. Goldfinger, Bullitt, and Gone in 60 Seconds are obvious choices. But the inclusion of Kick-Ass and the brief appearance of a New Edge Saleen Mustang in 2 Fast 2 Furious seem like unusual selections.
The duel between Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 and Tilly Masterson’s Wimbledon White Mustang convertible in Goldfinger didn’t turn out well for Tilly. However, it was the first appearance of a Ford Mustang in a major motion picture.

Indeed, it was likely the first time many moviegoers had seen a Mustang, with the film being released the same year the car debuted. Understanding the value of this, Ford Motor Company actually supplied Tilly’s Mustang — and many other cars — to the production team.
There’s likely no movie Mustang more famous than the Dark Highland Green ’68 fastback driven by Steve McQueen in Bullitt. To prepare the car for the role, legend has it that McQueen drove the car around San Francisco for weeks before production started. The car supposedly accumulated various dings and dents to more accurately depict a car driven by a hard-edged detective.
Despite having all badging removed, the car was instantly recognizable as a Mustang, and Bullitt became a favorite of car enthusiasts, mainly due to its iconic chase scene. On two occasions, Ford has produced special edition Bullitt Mustangs to commemorate the film, with another due in 2018.
