What Happens When You Turbocharge a Coyote?

By -

What do you do when your Coyote-powered Mustang needs more straight-line speed? Turbocharge!

The Ford 5.0 Coyote motor is without a doubt one of the best crate motors on the planet. It’s powerful in just about every sense of the word, and has proven to be reliable time and time again — especially as a racing engine.  This is why we are seeing so many Mustang GTs making their way down the quarter-mile as of late. A 2013 GT, for example, puts down 420 horsepower straight out of the factory, without any tweaking. Hence, you have the perfect platform to make a total track monster.

Commonplace mods like bigger intercoolers make small improvements, but what if you need to make some serious power gains? Two turbos, anyone? Well, much to the chagrin of many Mustang purists, the racer in the video above did exactly that. Although power figures aren’t specified, it is not hard to tell that the Coyote is throwing out some massive juice. Just watch as the twin-turbo setup, aided by some rather large drag slick tires, takes on a 1,400-horsepower Fox Body with an LS motor and nitrous boost.

Be sure to watch all the way to the end too, because it’s hard to tell who gets the upper hand. Either way, this twin-turbo GT is hardcore, through and through.
