Actually, it was he 1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk.

Long hood, short rear deck, bucket seats, 2 door pillarless coupe huge horsepower (supercharged in '57)

Then take a closer look at the body lines on the 1963 Studebaker Avanti, (introduced in 1962) built on a Lark frame (anyone see a similarity here?)

The problem with the Golden HAwk & Avanti was the price point. Also note these cars were built on a full frame X crossmember design, no lower cost unibody was developed.

Anyhow, just sayin.....

The debate about the first muscle cars, or what constitutes a muscle car, will go on forever. But the point about this particular discussion was low cost, and both the Barracuda and Mustang fit the bill in that regard. The Barracuda got lost in the sauce initially so the Mustang is universally accepted as the car that kick started the pony car genre.

Here's a few more from our pre-meet! Yes, I have no license plate. Apparently when I swapped to the RTR license plate surround, the screws I had weren't long enough with my college license plate frame a 99-01 Cobra was following us just as we got down to LA and they pulled up alongside to tell us it had fallen off a while back. So I was ridin' dirty the whole time down there and the way back.

Went straight to DMV to get new reg stickers for my front plate that I never put on and had to file a police report for the lost plate. That enters it into the stolen vehicle database, in case someone is able to find it on the freeway and put it on their car...

I sure hope not. I assume it'll be flagged if it's on anything other than a 2014 silver Mustang. Otherwise, I'm keeping my DMV paperwork and police report in the car.

The garage is finally done. It's the TechFloor system by WeatherTech. It couldn't have been easier....180 sq ft including the beveled border for under $575, free shipping and no tax. The hardest part of the job was getting rid of all the boxes.

That looks great! I would love to do something like that, but I have a 3-car garage and the cost would be crazy... At some point I'll probably do it, but not any time soon... Looks awesome though!

Thanks Tony (and the rest of you guys). It's far from a show room but it's prior condition just wasn't a very happy place for my precious Pony. It actually looks better in person than the pics show. I had to make a ton of compromises since I couldn't start with a clean slate and given what I had to work with there's nothing I'd do differently. But at least it looks like a garage where a nice car is kept. It's wired for stereo and If I had the room I'd put in a recliner and a Keurig coffee maker. And a bed. And a pole for go-go dancers. And a slot machine. That's about all I need. Oh yeah, and a 65" flat screen TV.

It's all about the weight of the wheels. If you find a lightweight wheel, you won't give up any performance going 20s versus 19s. My car saw a huge improvement in performance, ride and acceleration just dropping about 10 pounds per corner of unsprung rotational mass with the wheel/tire combo, and then at least another 5 pounds per corner with the lighter Wilwood brakes, and then another 5-8 pounds per corner with the Airlift suspension components.

The car feels super light on its feet now.

If you want to go back to a square setup, I'd do something like a 20x9.5 all around and 275/35/20 or 19x9.5 all around and 275/40/19. Find wheels that are as light as possible and you'll be fine
Patrick, are you sure that I'll be fine going from 255/35/20 to 275/35/20 in the front ?
I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but I'm lowered by 1.4" up front with Eibach pro springs and perhaps it's just me, but it seems IMO that clearance is pretty tight with just the 255/35/20's..

And would I also run across any alignment adjustment problems upgrading to 20x9.5 from 20x8.5

All depends on the offset. You should be fine though. Roush runs that exact setup on their cars, 20x9.5 and 275/35/20 all around. I'd do a +35 just to be on the safe side.
