here is an interesting note: This year has been the deadliest year of bear to human encounters in Yellowstone.
Apparently there is a food shortage for the bears. Use caution.

Yeah, That track was old enough we weren't too worried. However, on the way back to the car later we noticed fresh bear scat on the trail that hadn't been there on the ascent. We talked a little louder and kept a keen eye out until we got to the car. The only thing we saw was a cow elk in the woods.

My parents have had bears on their deck before and one tried to break into their house because it smelled blood from the elk my dad had killed INSIDE the house, and my dad had thoroughly cleaned it up. It is amazing how good their sense of smell is. And if they find food in an area they will remember it the following year and return. My parents are VERY mindful of trash and putting food out for other animals, even bird seed is never put out anymore.

dapuke Iowa. kind of a neat story behind that. A rich banker back in the 40's I believe couldn't make it up the hill, take a nap and make it back down the hill within his lunch hour. So he had that thing built. Worked out great I guess.
