Better buy a couple of new cars, heheh. I remember how much fun those things were, and those "guardrails" on the box are a frickin' lie.

 

 

I had a huge Aurora set back in the 60's. Got the first part fir Christmas when I was 10 (1964). The cars were " Thunderbolt 500". Hard rubber tires that mostly just spun and slid. I kept adding track and cars over the years and the cars got faster and silicone tires made a huge difference. You are correct about the guard rails. But they had some clip on curve aprons that worked pretty well.
I'm going to buy a set with a 69 Camaro and blue Boss 302.

 

I have to admit, there's a part of me that wants to do the same thing, and I don't have kids.
