Most people who trim these bumpers, use fiberglass skins and run a piece of box tubing across the two shock absorbing mandibles at the front, and then mount the skin to the tubing itself.

What I have now is just the skin (although, its worth noting that the skin is made of steel, and just has a layer of the soft squishy stuff molded on top) mounted to aforementioned mandibles. I plan on running tubing of some kind before I actually drive it anywhere. I'll probably pick some up next time I go to OSH to get the bracket material for the sideskirts and airdam

Jason, if I had a dog you can absolutely rest assured that would happen

Also! Arin now has a working tach for the first time in.. I don't even know how many years. Nothing fancy, but it works and is the only gauge with the ability to light up

also, slightish updates. I sold my old 4-5 lug adapters and ordered/received a set of 5 lug spacers. They function basically the same as the old ones, only they are all once piece. This corrects the backspacing issues i have with latemodel wheels and will mean no more inner tire rub.

It also means i need new wheel studs for the same reason i lost my rear wheel a while back. I was only able to get a lug not tightened down to less than half of its threads. longer wheel studs were just ordered. This means I can finally put those 16" wheels and tires on the rear, put my two good 15" on the front and use this like a car lol.

Which also means i could finally drive the thing to an alignment shop. I'm thinking of taking it to an autocross soon as well. I want to see what this car is like when I finally use all these mods i've been installing for years

anywho, expect pics later this week once the wheel studs arrive.

well that took me longer than expected. I got a hold of some ARP longer studs, bu I couldnt manage to press them in at home. Took it to a shop down the street, they pressed em in, and cut them so they would fit inside the spacer without trouble for $80. not bad imo

Now the car is finally back down on its wheels. the steelies in the front have the barely used tires i bought months ago on finally, and the oem sn95 16s in the back have some half decent tires on em aswell. they finally sit where they should. theres no more rub on the inside of the fenderwell towards the backbone, but..

I am definitely going to need to roll the rear fenders. If the rear suspension compresses even a little, it'll start to scrape sidewall, but after having done it on the front, i don't think its gonna be that hard. I started it on the pass side yesterday, not a lot of progress yet. The drivers side though needs a crowbar or something to pull out the bottom of the fenderwell that was punched in by these wheels when they fell off. That'll be fun

anywho, pichas. oh and a sweet porsche at the shop i took the axles to.

Thanks

A few mroe closeups of the rear fender clearance (or lack thereof) aand just some shots showing off the rubber I think i'll be able to get away with just folding the lip over, it doesnt seem like it will need much pulling outwards. these spacers are almost perfect. if i really wanted to push it out to the edge, another inch would have been nice, but i like the workability and that i can finally use the plethora of cheap latemodel wheels/tires that are all over craigslist.

the fronts i think might need a bit of pulling out still. but the suspension hardly budges, so who knows until i really start to dig into it

also.. i went out today and ran it for around 12 minutes and it started toget very hot. i know its a pretty warm day today, and airflow would probably be helpful, but i still worry that its getting too hot too fast

anyhow, for now, pichas

See if you can beg, borrow, or steal a fender rolling tool along with a heat gun to fold the lip over in the rear wheel wells. Otherwise careful use of a PVC pipe or wooden baseball bat can get the job done.
Looking at the rear 3/4 shots, I was thinking it would be awesome if you could modify the front and rear fenders and give them coke bottle flares somehow.

i did the fronts with a hammer, sanding block and a few hours of my time. i still havent done the baseball bat part up front, but it doesnt need the clearance yet. somday though, these fenders are going to be exquisite

i just need to set aside a day and do it lol. i also just picked up a spare set of 95 Rs with tires for the bullitt. I really want to try an autox or drift day at sonoma soon. who knows, if the fitment is good enough, i might even run those tires on this car. no idea if 255s in the front and 275s in the back even have a hope of fitting, but theres only one way to find out. and if they dont.. theres always the clarksonian method

After a day of hammering I eventually got around to baseball batting those fenders. Opened them each up a fair bit. I took her out today for a quick ride around the neighborhood and man, it feels so good to drive. Theres still tire rub in the rear, but so miniscule, its hard to imagine it was ever a problem. i think the fender lips are still hitting under hard cornering, but no contact at all on the inside of the tire.

also, saw this at the junkyard this weekend. was gonna at least rescue the glass, but pick'n'pull ain't cheap no mo

Also, I'm hoping to hit up the SCCA autocross at golden gate fields on sunday the 8th. I don't know if I'll take the II or thee Bullitt, or if I'll even run (I'm planning on at least just watching this one, maybe signing up for the second half after I'm a little more familiar) But at the very least it should be good fun to watch some interesting cars driven hard. expect many pichas.

Once the racing seat was in, it was kind of a PITA to get in and out of the car, and the lowest spot on the factory wheel was way to close to my legs.

In order to fix this cramped cabin I finally added an aftermarket wheel. I've had an install kit for years, but the ******* that bought the kit must no have known to look up what part# was for which car. turns out I'd been using a kit for a 92 nissan

a few bucks later and voila!

I also soldered the connections for my tach so it would work reliably.. worked all day yesterday, but today it wont. I wonder if the fact that I actually washed the car has to do with that. regardless, I'll be going in to recheck them connections again once the suns back out

too bad your hyper drive is perpetually faulty! Can't even blame the empire on it!
