I could wash it, but the roads are all wet and slushy still. It'd just be a waste of money.

in the third picture, on the white lightning bolt shaped reflection of light right below what would be the middle, you can sort of make out the run

something in the top end- lifters, rocker arms, or pushrods... it's making an almost high-pitched rattling sound in the top of the engine... and it can be heard in the exhaust as well... it'll still run smooth-no misfiring or stalling, and it carries good oil pressure, so hopefully it's something small...

could it be valve clatter? I used to hear that in the II (when it was a carb) and a redid the timing and retuned the carb and it went away forever. for you it might just be a timing issue. if its a rattling/clatter noise, and even if its not the valve clatter i mentioned, it still seems like its probably got to be a problem in the valvetrain..

hope you get it figured out and fixed soon

I dunno, here's the back story that I posted on BMC...

I got a new steering wheel for the 'stang as an early Christmas gift, and I was anxious to install it tonight, so I backed the 'stang into the front yard where I could use the streetlight to see.
It has been raining here all day, and my front yard is a little muddy, so when I went to pull it forward, it spun a little, so I rocked it back and forth a little trying to get it to move. I then gunned it trying to get through this 5 foot wide strip of mud... it went right through with no problem, but when I came out the other side, it was making a weird noise... after getting out and listening to it, I think it's either a bent pushrod, or a bad lifter...

I never thought running the motor at about 4000 rpm for all of 6 seconds would cause something like this to happen. Looks like I gotta pull the motor apart now...

Later Arin...

Now
I hope you enjoyed the break from slippery roads and slow commutes because it's all coming back. One storm system will graze southern Minnesota Thursday night and Friday, while a much stronger system will move in quickly behind causing much more snow and blowing snow along with very cold air as well. Right now it looks like we'll get 2 to 4 inches of snow with the first storm, which tapers off Friday morning. The second storm Saturday afternoon through Sunday looks like it'll produce at least half a foot of snow for most of the southern half of the state into western Wisconsin. Much colder air is on the way as the second storm moves out on Sunday with highs struggling to get above zero.
The Outlook
Next week looks cold and snowy as well. It looks like another round of snow moves in on Tuesday with a slight chance for some additional snow on Christmas Day. Temperatures will start out in the single digits above zero for highs with overnight lows dropping into the teens below zero. Christmas Day looks warmer with highs getting close to 20!
