I feel for ya, Willie. I went through the same thing; had to retire (at age 58) or move to some other area where GM had a factory with openings for area hires from within the corporation. Fortunately I had enough seniority to take a regular (full benefits) retirement, plus there was an "incentive"...$$$$... to slide on out. Hope you are able to have the opportunity to work until you're ready to retire on your terms.

my home probably has 3000 nails holding it together but this one single nail continues to back out every time i nail it back in .. what gives ? .. where is charlie my answer man when i need him ?

aerospace and defense manufacturing .. we make a lot of military jet fighter stuff ..just of late we spent a fortune tooling up for a huge titanium project and we failed miserably letting some of our base customers slip away ..our machines are too old to hold such close tolerances .. I work in shipping and receiving ..

I'm sorry to hear that. I went through a similar thing in 2008, after which we were acquired by a large national company and we thought thank goodness now we're financially safe. But after about 18 months later in early 2010 they began to send in their own people from other plants and offices and most of us were let go.

I was lucky enough to use my severance period as a long vacation and went right back to work for one of their competitors however I did have to move out of state due to the severance agreement. Never, ever wanted to move but it's been great for our immediate family and I make more now than I did then so for now we couldn't be happier.

Moral is keep your chin up.
