Ummmm according to the fire marshall that was a gas fireplace that was "converted" into a wood burning fire place. It had insulation and wiring around the walls of the chiminey. The fire started under and behind the fire box where I couldnt get to it with the fire extigiusher

We got some friends that say we can stay with them but they are either getting ready to move or their house is full already.

There are more pics that you can look thru of all the damage here
Dang man, glad your ok and they were able to contain it. From the one pic it looks like the damage wasn't terrible, I haven't looked at the rest yet. Water and smoke damage however is a pain .

Ok sorry yea I just went and looked at the rest of the pics. Didn't realize it gt into attic and rafters. I hope they take care of ya. Props to fd for getting and saving it, once it hits the attic and starts climbing in walls, it's tough. Good job on their part. Is it a vollie dept or paid?

Geez...it's not until you see these kinds of things or go through them firsthand that you realize how valuable the FD is. That house is salvageable because of them. Hope things clear up for you and you get a little more of the good luck instead of the bad.

I can't believe how close it was to being a REALLY bad day with the gas furnace right there. I can't imagine that would've been good...

They are a paid FD. We had engines come from 3 different houses. They had to deal with the fire in temps being near zero. The water was freezing within secs when it hit the ground and roof and they were climbing all over the roof. They had at least 4 lines going to get the fire out. The guys that were there got 2 days off for the great job that they did.

This 2013 has been full of bad luck. I just wish I could catch a break and start getting some good luck. Its been a tough year.

The sad thing is. The gas and water company showed p to turn off the water and gas to the house and they failed to do it. They were fighting this fire right next to that water heater with gas still being supplied to it. If it would have blown it would have possibly taken out the neighborhood at most or the neighbors at least. The gas and water didnt get turned off till the plumber showed up that evening to winterize the house to keep the pipes from freezing.

Little crazier than at home but it depends what part of home you're comparing it to. It's a lot like around the U. But holy crap there's a ton of speed bumps!!
